iFi Audio Zen Dac 3... Plug In, World Out!

I’m guessing you’re using Windows. I’ve checked the iFi website (https://ifi-audio.com/faqs/disabled-volume/) and it said: What we have done is disable the USB device volume control (which uses DSP in the XMOS system to control volume). OSX “obeys” this while other operating systems have...

iFi Audio Zen Dac 3... Plug In, World Out!

That’s what I understood as well. Someone else was asking about it.

iFi Audio Zen Dac 3... Plug In, World Out!

Well, it doesn’t. Neither on my Uno nor my Zen DAC 3. Maybe it’s a Mac thing?

iFi Audio Zen Dac 3... Plug In, World Out!

I upgraded from the Uno to the Zen Dac 3 and the sound quality is much better for me. So it was a very worthwhile upgrade, as was getting the power supply. But volume control is still through the amp and not the Mac. As I understand it, the DAC receives the data from the computer, then converts...

Newbie headphone cable choice advice please

I’ve been using an OIDIO cable for a while and like it enough that I’ve just ordered another. Sound good, reasonable price and good quality. https://oidiosound.co.uk/

iFi Audio Zen Dac 3... Plug In, World Out!

That’s cool. Be glad when it’s fixed though, as I said before, it’s not a big deal. The sound quality is the important thing and, now that it’s broken in a bit more, it really as an impressive piece of kit.

iFi Audio Zen Dac 3... Plug In, World Out!

I use smart plugs for my main system and my TV. Useful to just have to say "Vinyl On" and be good to go.

Yeah, that's the same as the issue I have. I might pick up a smart plug for it then I can turn it off that way.

    OIDIO SOUND Impressions Thread

Another very satisfied customer - I got a Mongrel cable with the 4.4mm balanced plug for my Focal Stellias. Straight away the sound is impressive. Staging is better, highs are bit crisper and the overall clarity of the sound has iimproved. And you get biscuits. What more could a customer want?

iFi Audio Zen Dac 3... Plug In, World Out!

Yeah, I’m not really bothered about it. I just find it odd that there appears to be no way to turn it off. It will be interesting to see if it’s an issue with the design or something with my particular one. It sounds great and that’s all I’m concerned with.

iFi Audio Zen Dac 3... Plug In, World Out!

Nope, my Mac isn’t in standby. As I mentioned, it stays on even when the USB C cable is disconnected, so I’m not sure what more I can do to see if it’s something to do with the computer. When it’s plugged in and nothing else is, it’s on. I can turn it off at the socket but thats a bit of a pain.

iFi Audio Zen Dac 3... Plug In, World Out!

That’s interesting - my stays on regardless;ess of the state of my Mac or even if it’s not connected to the computer at all. I’m guessing it’s either something with the design or that there is something with my particular example.

iFi Audio Zen Dac 3... Plug In, World Out!

That's correct. The short way of saying that is whenever the power cord is connected, the amp is on. As far as i can tell, there's no power control, if the USB-C is connected or not, and if the Mac is on or not. Thanks for your help with this!

iFi Audio Zen Dac 3... Plug In, World Out!

'Morning, so I disconnected the USB C entirely, but it still stays powered on when connected to the power. It's very strange. at this point, my question is is it something with this model (in which case there are things I can do) or is there a problem with my particular Zen DAC 3.
