Completely agree with you re: Srajan's reviews, but just to torment you, here's his writeup on those speakers. They're Boenicke W5SEs, and Srajan did mention driving them in his LIO review - seems there's plenty of juice for them. He said he was running them at around volume level 31 (of 63)...

Interesting! Love Shchedrin's arrangement of Carmen, and my go-to is the Turovsky, but I have not heard this Melodiya release. Found quite a few hidden gems from Melodiya over the years... Will look into this!

FYI, Vinnie posted some more details on the DAC over at AudioCircle… chips (independent chip per channel) are Asahi Kasei AK4399. 44.1-384kHz; 16, 24, 32 bit; DSD 64 & 128 (S/PDIF limited to PCM 24/192). Toggleable phase inversion as well as two filtering modes (normal, minimum phase). And then...

A binaural recording can be just as well- or poorly-made as any other. The difference is simply in the mic technique - one that imitates a human head. This in itself goes a long way to reproducing an accurate sense of space and all, and in general a lot of folks seem to prefer recordings made...

I don't really mind either, but I find the squeeze convertor to be far more convenient and reliable. That it holds more ink is just a bit of a bonus.
