    RAAL-requisite CA-1a Circum-Aural Ribbon Headphone is here! @HeadAmp

As you can tell, my sadness comes from unique, one-of-a-kind things taken away from us. It's pointless to speculate about some distant future, what we have now is that both the SR and the CA are discontinued. RAAL giveth and RAAL taketh away...

Well, they seem to confirm my view. Specifically, "richer in body, significantly more bass and mid-range body... expansive, concert hall like sound". And on the the SR: "I find it less fatiguing, and lighter on the head." So basically it's the kind of sound one might expect from an absolutely...

You can ask and I can answer. I haven't listened to either yet, it's just that they follow the same physical principle in general construction as every other open-back headphone. No magic, just physics, at least that's what I presume.

I must add this for posterity. The reason I chose the CA-1a (and soon the SR as well) was because they are truly open. Apart from those two there's just the Mysphere that I know of (and its AKG inspiration). I simply cannot stand the sound of pads, even in the open-back headphones, and that...

RAAL-requisite: The Official VM-1a Discussion Thread

To everyone who owns one – what kind of box did it come in? Any photos?

So the voltage is zero. Guess it's something else. While fumbling with DACs I discovered an interesting behavior, perhaps I should inform Topping about it: A70 mutes outputs even without any load present, fully disconnected from any consumers. I know that because I hear it clicking. The volume...

Hmm. I do have a moderately sophisticated voltmeter. What do I need to measure? As for driving it hotter, well, I tried to use the 16 ohms input on the TI instead of the 32 ohms input and it simply brought the -11db limit lower. I'll see if I can find a more powerful line out source lying...

I bought it second hand, but what's worse Topping doesn't seem to acknowledge a problem (and they never even asked for a serial number to check if my unit was an early run) and keep insisting that it's "for my protection". We've exchanged numerous emails about the issue and they stopped replying...

Well, I got really excited about this theory as it seemed entirely plausible and ran to test it out! Unfortunately, that seems not to be the case. I had to set the EQ to cut everything sharply below 750 Hz before dropouts started to diminish in frequency, but they were not gone entirely. In...

So with all that in mind, what's going to blow up first, TI-1b or CA-1a?

Well then how would you connect the headphones to Benchmark AHB2?

So it does confirm A70 is underpowered. AHB2 seems to be a power amplifier. I've read briefly that people do connect their CAs directly to such amplifiers, but what's the bottom line? Is that a working solution that's replacing headphone amplifier+TI combo?

Well, it's exactly the lack of standard that is the culprit here. 17 watts measured what way, exactly? If I would pry, Topping could answer with a similarly nonsensical value for sustained power which in the end would tell me nothing. Perhaps if I could measure the power at my end somehow...

    RAAL-requisite CA-1a Circum-Aural Ribbon Headphone is here! @HeadAmp

Good day! I absolutely do need to have this answered. I've contacted Topping about it and they've avoided answering the question for several emails and after I asked them directly they chose to be silent. Specifically, I asked, what are... 1. Maximum peak power in watts 2. Maximum sustained...
