KG Megatron vs KG Stax T2

@kevin gilmore is this because the 300b pull less than el34? standard mt 135w from high voltage plus about 80-85 watts from tube filament = 210-220w

KG Megatron vs KG Stax T2

@Dukei built my standard megatron and is also building another megatron for me with some “upgrades”. He’s Europe based and great to work with. Mjolnir audio will have some standard Megatron available at some point this year. Soren is the only person who has offered the XL thus far.

KG Megatron vs KG Stax T2

@smk5r do you have a device to measure the watt pull from the wall? Curious especially with the rectifier tubes. Standard MT is about 200-220 (85w from the filaments alone).

Agreed. Do you have a 007 btw ?

KG Megatron vs KG Stax T2

This is not the case with my experience with the classic MT (especially not with ecc80s) nor the DIY Kg T2.

KG Megatron vs KG Stax T2

Okay good to know. I suppose the difference with the MT is that the input tubes can technically be swapped for different tube types (e.g Ecc83 swapped for ecc80 or e181c) which have large fundamental changes to the way the amp functions - where with the T2 it’s more of a function of the same...

KG Megatron vs KG Stax T2

Have you felt the T2 changed significantly with rolling? I was under the impression that the curves of the tubes will really determine the sound for the MT but the T2 pretty much forces any tube to behave in a linear manner due to the BJT topology/231 semiconductors

KG Megatron vs KG Stax T2

I’ve gone back to the TADs and think I prefer them to the Tele in the 83/82 spots. Maybe I’m weird. Over time I felt the ecc80 was too strong and ruined the style of the amp.

KG Megatron vs KG Stax T2

Have you heard the original megatron? I wasn’t that impressed with the Shang on mine but feel the mt is the best pairing for the x9k/009 (although I have only heard a diy t2 not the eksonic)

Wow!! So happy to see someone finally built one. We need to hear more impressions! How was the wait time?

Comment by 'Chefguru' on listing 'PENDING SALE - Eksonic Aeras Electrostatic Headphone Amplifier - One of the best at any price!'

The megatron is the most neutral of the amps listed BHSE/KGST/Aeras/T2 use a mosfet which adds coloration , aka "warmth" but ultimately they are hybrid Novem is intentionally colored tube amp (neither powerful nor neutral, but works with x9k and 009 signature)

    Grado HP1000 "The legendary Grado"

Heavily depends on condition but something like 1500-3000. With most selling between 1600-2200. A restored/improved version (this was a service done by Joe) is worth more around 3000-4000. Sonically some of them have degraded a bit over time - how clean the inside mesh is, is a good gauge of...

HIFIMAN Shangri-La: The New Electrostatic Headphones From HIFIMAN

Can you run a hz sweep between 16.000-21,000 and perhaps use something other than your ear (an iPhone recording could work) I thought I was hearing this on the SGL I heard. I have asked another SGL owner to do the same and they found distortion at 18,000 on only one channel. This wouldn't be...

HIFIMAN Shangri-La: The New Electrostatic Headphones From HIFIMAN

The build of the SGL is very poor for a TOTL headphone let alone at this price point. The cable is covered in a nylon material that causes microphonics and the length of the pins for some reason were not measured correctly for stax pro so a plastic spacer has been placed on it (otherwise the pin...
