Desktop Schiit Stack: great sound at a fair price. First, we have the Schiit Modi 3 DAC, described by Darko Audio in this manner "The Schiit brick is one kick-ass first purchase for anyone looking to get better sound from a consumer-grade computer. ...Furthermore, the Modi 3 comes on as more...- ChrisMcNeil

Essentially as new Chord Poly. Fantastic sound quality and convenience for the Mojo and, now, Mojo 2. If you are reading this, you probably already know all about the Poly but, just in case, as per What Hi-Fi "The Poly is designed to work exclusively with the Mojo, and cannot be used with any...- ChrisMcNeil

Woo Audio WA6-SE - modding to use also as pre amp
Correct and my tentative hypothesis is that they repurposed the higher impedance version of the 2 headphone output options …. It’s hard to imagine there is an additional tap unused normally but I’m not 100% sure, hence my request for more info. Thanks for the reply. Chris- ChrisMcNeil

On a mission to like jazz
I don't like all jazz but like a lot of what is on the ECM label ... got led there by Pat Metheny (no longer his label) and found there are playlists on Qobuz that are ECM specific with much to like.- ChrisMcNeil

Best audiophile metal and rock albums
Leaning largely on my classic rock, ummm … “art rock” … and jam band taste in popular music (in addition to certain strains of jazz and classical), here are some I’ve curated nice sounding hi-res (96/24 or 192/24) versions of via Qobuz into Volumio lately:- ChrisMcNeil

Woo Audio WA6-SE - modding to use also as pre amp
I recently purchased a used first generation WA6-SE from a member here and I am very happy with the sound. My system uses a Schiit Saga+ for the preamp. It is pretty transparent but I feel I need to migrate my system to a preamp with gain…the Saga+ is passive. Since I only need 2 inputs -...- ChrisMcNeil

ANK EL84 Amp
Looks awesome but, as you mentioned, pricey for a kit. At 11 Class A WPC I’ll bet it wouldn’t take but a few adjustments to make it a great amp for tweeters in a biamp loudspeaker set… or, for that matter, tweeter handling over 3.5kHz in a quad-amp setup like mine. Does it run the EL84s as...- ChrisMcNeil

DIY Stereo Smyth Realiser
Intriguing but I understand every project doesn’t merit being brought fully to life … as a sometimes coder I’ve been intrigued by FPGA’s and, in my world, what they can bring to streamers and DACs…I have an ambition to learn Verilog so I can create FIFO’s to enable better reclocking for the DACs...- ChrisMcNeil

LCD-X and XC Update
I recently acquired a new LCD-X and love how it sounds with my Woo WA6-SE amp. The EQ settings seem intriguing. I had previously used a MiniDSP NanoDIGI initially, then BruteFIR via Volumio integration to EQ my old Audeze Sine headphones as per the settings recommended here -...- ChrisMcNeil
