Denon AH-D5200 (little brother of the AH-D7200)

I got mine a few days ago because I could get them for a very cheap price (black friday coupon code + it was a returned headphone - the person who returned it didn't liked the sound of these headphones. This is what the shop where I was getting them from told me). I really like them. My biggest...

Where is the price/performance "sweet spot" in your opinion?

Isn't that just a lot of snake oil? From what I understand the most part depends on the headphones drivers and on the bitrate from your music source. If they are good then there is no need for amps / dacs in that price category. I mean I never heard stuff that is that expensive but in general...

Where is the price/performance "sweet spot" in your opinion?

Depends a bit how well a headphone responds to EQ. I would say something between 300-500€. Never heard the ultra expensive headphones (2000€ and more) so I can't say how big the differences are between those but within the 1000€ price range there is not much of a day and night difference that...

How big an improvement is there from a Schiit Magni/Modi to the new JDL Atom DAC 2 and AMP 2?

I think I read it on reddit where it was stated that the guys from JDL said theirselves that it's not really an improvement because the normal JDS Labs is already more than enough to power up majority of headphones and they are just adding a bit more power because of the snake oil that people...

Any great Alternatives for ATH-R70x other than Sundara and HD 600?

What is an alternative for the R70X if your head shape doesn't allow to wear them properly on your head? I like the Audio Technica sound signature in general but always had to avoid all headphones from them with this strange wing pad system because it simply doesn't fit my head. Audio Technica...

Black Friday Specials - an HD 660S2 for HOW MUCH?!?

Great price for the 660S2. Sadly there is no discount on Sennheiser Germany or else I might would've considered them for this price.

Moondrop VENUS, PARA (hybrid default pads and EP-100A pads) and COSMO (re-equipped with the PARA's hybrid pads) Discussion.

I heard them from a sound demo here: And I think it sounds really good. But sound demos aren't really a good indicator because in real life it will always sound different (especially if you are using your own, different equipment). So can someone here who owns them say how accurate or not...

Denon AH-D5200 (little brother of the AH-D7200)

Thanks for your input. By knowing that now I have to give the Denon's a pass then. I'm searching for a headphone that I can listen to without having to buy extra stuff and I'm not willing to pay so much money for "just" listening to music. But atleast you guys helped me figuring out if it's...

Denon AH-D5200 (little brother of the AH-D7200)

It was intended to use them from my PC. Mainboard is an AsRock B650E Steel Legend Wifi with a Realtek ALC 897 soundchip.

Denon AH-D5200 (little brother of the AH-D7200)

So would you recommend the 5200 to someone who can't afford an extra amp? If you would need one although their impedence and sensitivy telling me that they should be fine without an amp then I have to decide against them because of the extra money for an amplifier.

Denon AH-D5200 (little brother of the AH-D7200)

Thanks for the fast reply. I am going to quote the segment from the review to let you guys know what exactly was written: "Due to the U-shaped sound signature of the Denon AH-D5200, midrange does sound somewhat recessed. While not detrimental in any way for casual listening, you may notice...

Denon AH-D5200 (little brother of the AH-D7200)

Hello guys. I've read from someone on reddit who was reviewing the 5200 that the midrange is a bit recessed. Do you guys agree on that? And if yes how much recessed is it? Sadly I can't demo before buying them so I just wanted to know how strong or not strong they are recessed in order to know...

    What are these headphones?

Audeze Maxwell Edit: Well, someone was faster.

    Denon AH-7200

Based on the frequency response graph you are right. The 7200 seems to have a stronger measured bass. But the thing is that a frequency response graph isn't always telling the full truth especially when it comes to imaging or soundstage for example.

Fostex TH 900 MK2 and probably the older Fostex row like AH-D5000 because they were still using the old Foster drivers. Maybe E-Mu Teak as well. Edit: Totally forgot about Skullcandy Crusher. These sound absolutely horrible in any other area but the bass is really mindblowing.
