Schiit Asgard 3 - Impressions Thread

I have both the HD580 and the HD 650 and it sounds as if the Valhalla 2 would do a better job than the Asgard 3. The price it's currently selling for at my local HiFi store is a bit off putting at almost twice the price. It would make sense to buy directly from Schiit themselves which is what I...

Schiit Asgard 3 - Impressions Thread

According to the Schiit website the Valhalla 2 will work very well with low impedance cans. I did some investigation of the V2 and was surprised to discover that this model was first released in 2019. Schiit are asking $US300 while the Australian price is $830. I am tempted to see if I can get a...

What has the Valhalla 2 got over the Asgard 3 that made you sell it? What cans are you using with it?

    Shure SRH840a

Fortunately for you the 840 is still available from many stores and will once again provide you with many years of listening pleasure. I didn't find the 840A bass heavy and was very happy with the clarity. Yes, I would agree that the 840 is more neutral but not by much for my ears. I'm pleased...

Schiit Asgard 3 - Impressions Thread

The Asgard is designed to handle headphones with a high impedance. The only decision you'll have to make is whether you use the gain switch or not. I run my 300 ohm HD580s and HD650s with relative ease on high gain. I also run cans with a much lower impedance and switch between high and low gain...

Ditto though I'm using the Modi 3+ as a DAC and mainly with my MM100s. The HD580s and 650s get used too. Great sound from all of them. I've not considered another HP Amp. I still have to onsell my Ananda Stealth which I have not used since getting the Audezes.

I used high gain for both Ananda and HD650. The 650s took a bigger turn on the dial.

How have JAR modified the 580s? I've seen articles but there is nothing definitive.

Point taken and I'll run with that as an overview.

    Audeze LCD-1

They would be very hard to find but not impossible. I also liked the sound of my LCD 1s and went for the HiFiman Ananda as their replacement. The sound of those didn't quite suit my tastes and when the Audeze MM100 came out I bought a pair hoping that they would get close to the LCD 1 sound...

    Audeze MM-100

So why do we need 'hype' for a pair of headphones? Should we buy headphones purely based on hype? Surely a forum like this one is where you would go for honest opinions by people who have tried them and compared them to other products. MarekM you said in post #1412 "Average - neither very good...

    Audeze MM-100

I got mine from a local (Australian) supplier online and had to wait for a while for them to arrive. Looking at their website it still says preorder so I guess this is universal and stockists are simply filling preorders as they can.

    Audeze MM-100

I have got both the HD650 and the MM100s and am going to back up what @Someguy420 said with a couple of slight caveats. Let's address the 650/MM100 comparison. The Audezes are a big step up from the HD650s in so many aspects. While soundstage might be similar in width between both, it's the...

    Shure SRH840a

That's a great deal. Addicted to Audio has dropped them to $AUS299 so that price is well ahead of us. I didn't have any issues with the earpad size but of course that varies for everybody. The sound signature is quite neutral but not completely. I found that Shure had improved the bass over the...
