Yes, the truth hurts! I know they LCDs are popular, so that's why I offered that my pair might be defective. I may have to try the PD500 or PS100; they might be more my style.

Use whichever setting sounds best. I think the impedance of the headphones is actually related to the gain you'll need from the amp. Low impedance headphones need less power to drive. I don't know about that amp in particular, but I think Marantz usually includes good headphone amps in thier products. My CD-63SE includes a great headphone amp; I have it on my desk here at work.

My Marantz CD-63SE CD player has a great headphone output, too. I think they use their own "HDAM" module instead of some off-the-shelf op amp for their headphone outputs.

I heard the MF 3i at the Atlanta Axpona show in 2011 and it was paired with Wharfedale Diamond 10.7s to good effect. In fact, that was my favorite system at the show.

Why not just use the Duet? I think the double-amping will screw it up. I have an Apogee ONE and it's a great headphone amp.
