Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
Definitely no veil here. They're quite clear and resolving. The bass is just a touch stiff, but nothing major considering the price. And I'm one of those burn in heretics, I do believe it might loosen up a bit. Time will tell. But I know for sure I instantly liked them. Even if nothing changes...- erics75

Funny you mentioned the AO, I'm listening to it as we speak with my OTL. I know people love planars, but I just can't get over how good high impedance dynamic drivers sound with tube amps. I'll take the AO over the CO/CC any day if I could only have one headphone. Not even a thought. The CO/CC...- erics75

ZMF Caldera - New Planar Magnetic from ZMF!
If you can find a used Hagerman Tuba that would be my choice for something excellent with both. I find amping the CO and AO difficult as most of the time my fav for one is not good with the other, especially at the lower price points. If you want to keep costs down honestly the Asgard 3 is a...- erics75

We have here the Alpha and Omega! First and last! Ok I don't know if the Caldera will be Zach's last planar, but it sounds really cool to say Alpha and Omega, so I'm using it. Fight me! Behold the Ori, the alpha. Pinnacle of ZMF Fostex mods. From it's birth pains sprung forth the ZMF universe...- erics75

ZMF Caldera - New Planar Magnetic from ZMF!
For me personally it comes down the driver material. You have a metal planar driver vs a biocellulose driver, and the physical composition of these drivers impart a sonic characteristic to the sound. Metal drives tend to be sharper, have harder transients, and overall just have a harsher...- erics75

Wells Audio - Impressions & Questions
Got my base V8 OTL back from service, and am giving it some time with of all things a ZMF Caldera open planar magnetic headphone. I was worried the Caldera (CO going forward) might not work well on an OTL but the V8 has the ball.....muscles to control those drivers easily. Really impressed...- erics75

Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
Agreed, got my 620 on Friday too and have been listening to it all morning this morning. Sounds incredible on my V8 OTL amp. Bass is a bit wooly out of the box but break in might alleviate that. Too early to give any real impressions other than I'm enjoying them and immediately thought they were...- erics75

I run splitter cables from my dac to my two amps. depending on your inputs/outputs you can get 4 amps on one dac. in my most elaborate setup using a Schiit Bifrost 2 i ran xlr splitters to two amps, and rca splitters to two more amps. i tried to limit the load on the dac by only having on the...- erics75

I've mainly been using the CC at work on my Tuba amp, a great amp but far from TOTL. So last night I gave the CC a run on my Stratus, and that opened my eyes to how much the CC scales. It gained even more separation and resolution, but also sounded smoother and more relaxed. And the bass...- erics75

All things ZMF!
Open vs closed means nothing for a specific model name, they'll share the same driver. So Verite open and closed have same driver. But it gets a bit trickier once you get past the open vs closed differentiator. Aeolus and Atticus share same driver. Auteur OG and Eikon OG share the same driver...- erics75

When i'm testing stuff i keep excel open and just jot down notes as i'm listening. it's very eclectic to read later, but does help with sonic memory issues. i live in excel at work so that's my weapon of choice, but word or even an open email to yourself works well also. i tried handwriting and...- erics75

Unfortunately Amazon is notorious for taking back returns and adding them back to new stock without inspection. And the OP did not return them as defective, so someone else will be getting a "new" unit that has been disassembled/reassembled by a previous owner. As for ethics, it's so subjective...- erics75

So does the CC dethrone either the AC or Bokeh for you when fun is the directive? :) Tough question eh! ;) I'm not quite there yet, though I do really like what the CC is doing. But if i'm totally honest, I'd still take the thicker, more euphonic AC and Bokeh for a one and only, push come to...- erics75

Once you've had time to learn all the tubes I'd love to see you put a list together of your top 3 cheap tubes for output, rectifier, and input. :) I know i'll be tube rolling shortly but i'm unfamiliar with the types the Aegis runs, so a vetted list from an experienced contributor here would be...- erics75

For me personally I'd avoid cracks for fear of it growing over time. I don't mind little nicks or finishing blemishes, but structural issues scare me. Just my opinion of course.- erics75

ATTICUS and EIKON, the new dynamic driver headphones from ZMF
So far for me the camphor was the only wood that had a strong smell. I've owned quite a few different woods but only the camphor really stood out. i love how the wood smells hahaha. I can't help but enjoy opening the case when grabbing my camphor Atticus and smelling that waft of camphor.- erics75

The CC is amazing for classical with it's clarity and separation. I actually like the closed a bit more than the open for classical for the added isolation. I'm not a huge classical listener, but do dabble in it from time to time. With the CC it's allowing me to really understand the complexity...- erics75
