IIS-G is probably just the default pin configuration where G stands for "Gustard." The U18 DDC, for example, has a button that can toggle through the different pin configs and "Gustard" is the default one.

This is a totally fair take. Diminishing returns is definitely a thing but I, having “invested” in the Wandla GSE, want to give it sometime and more tinkering. Also, someone buy my R26! :D

BTW, is this the only device that's a standalone streamer (i.e., no DAC/amp) that can switch the input via UI? I'm new to streamers and understand there are some that are many levels above this price point.

I haven’t tried the Wandla without the U18 and OCK-2, but the main purpose of having the U18 is to take advantage of I2S. I think your headphones are more forgiving with what’s in the chain, so the difference is probably not that big. With the Sus, I’m definitely hearing more micro details in certain tracks, than with the R26. At the moment, I have all GSE filters turned on. I want to burn the sound into my brain...

FYI, for anyone using the Gustard U18, connecting it to the Wandla via I2S, you have to put the U18 into Mode 2 or Mode 4, otherwise the left and right channels will be reversed.

I upgraded from the R26 to the Wandla GSE (just got it in yesterday). I posted my initial impressions here. I do find the improvements marginal, but these kinds of things you have to give it time. I bet if you go back to the R26, you'll notice a bigger difference (like you're missing something.
