This is the most enlightening statement on 24/96 on rockbox I've read so far, thanks!   However the iPod's DAC are capable of 24/96, see: tech info of the DAC used in 1st and 2nd gen pods the datasheet of the DAC used in 3rd gen pods I'm not sure about the current generation of ipods. 

Check out this thread and the links therein and this discussion in the rockbox forum for more info on 24/96 on the iriver. Since to my knowledge the DAC chip in the ipods could handle 24/94 there might be interest for a high res rockbox version beyond the iriverH1xx comminuty.

Does anyone know a tool to download the content of their forum?

Too bad. Let's hope they give the forum's database to a third party to host or open the content. Would be too bad if all the information on hacks, mods, repairs etc. were lost.

There is a rumour that misticriver.net was shut down. Can anyone confirm or - hopefully - deny that? Closing that site would be a real loss, they hat tons of useful information in their forums.

I searched around and did not find any mod that bypasses the internal ipod dac. Apparently the signal before the internal dac is based on a proprietary format, not a standard spdif-signal that you could tap. The imod just grabs the analog signal after the internal dac and provides a line out...

Looks like you've got it all. There are 160GB hard drives out there but aparently they work on ipods only, so the biggest for a H140 is a 120 GB (which gives you 111GB when formatted.)

If you use an ipod as DAP there is no need for an external DAC since you can't bypass the ipod's internal one, at least with a stock ipod. So all you need is an external amp to boost the signal. If you want an external DAC/Amp combo, you'll need a player that outputs a digital signal, either...

The iRiver H1xx actually DO have optical ins.

As you said there is no limitation in iBasso's warranty to the first seller. Just drop them a note that you have a faulty player and ask them about their repair and shipping policy. Oh, and while you're at it: ask them to replace the faulty resistor which is described here: iBasso D10. Cobra...
