The law of diminishing returns sets in, I threw everything at mine, I don't think I could have spent more on the build and I love it, it is great and wouldn't replace it, if you can afford to do it right, do it.... :]   However, it started a chain reaction, previously I had M3 and EMU0404...

I have a slightly different experience, although you do say multiple 'asio' streams and I usually mix types. ASIO, unlike WSAPI doesn't cut the card off completely.   If you have an Emu at least you can play foobar via ASIO and aslong as the sample rate matches what Windows/Games are...

Personally I'd go back and use an older version of foobar, preferably 0.8.3.   I don't think WSAPI is superior to ASIO or vice versa, WSAPI just became flavour of the month. Both do bit perfect and unmangled audio, cheap cards don't support ASIO, hence the bias towards WSAPI now.    

I'm really disapointed with it, on a technical level the qualities are all there, good depth, seperation and space, nice timbre, it is fast and agile maybe a little lean and I am hearing 'new' things however it is harsh, dull and tiring, there is a edge to everything midrange up that just hurts...

I'm playing with something similar. Use LTC 4054 ( http://www.linear.com/product/LTC4054-4.2 ) for charging, works really well via USB as I've built a couple of standalone chargers and it follows a safe CC/CV charge curve. Tiny chip but really easy to implement.

Because the PC drive is treating it a bit more like data and is being insistant on getting it all off, 100% perfect and error corrected. A stereo cd player doesn't have time for that, so just allows pops n clicks through without such severe attempts at error correction. On my rotted discs...

The Cardas Quad solder (no silver) is so nice to use that I 'waste' it doing any soldering job, on the car, round the house etc. It melts at such a low point that its useability is the best I have seen. I buy it for that reason alone, imo nothing is quite as easy to work with.

Thanks for the info, I was thinking it was probably safest to do the final fit myself but I'm a bit lazy I've used FPE program a lot, I've never actually had anything made but I have used it for design for a long time. I found printing it onto transparent sheets or giant sticky labels was handy!

It usually changes from 44.1 to 48 and back but the other rates require the card to be set to a different profile. You can create shortcuts and it is not really any pain. It is a semi-pro interface so the software is nothing like Creative's usual fare. I'm not really advocating the 0404...

The Emu 0404 has one http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~timc/e/emu/emu_xlr.jpg (bottom left) I have a pretty nasty PC that is packed to the gills and I have no issue with loops or noise at all. Do you actually have a problem or are you just anticipating one?

Thats a good find and the explanation sounds entirely plausible. Phew? There are reports of fake markings and its no suprise given the cost differential between some of these grades, plus who wants a DAC with chips from the lower bin. The Chinese are good at remarking things.
