Schiit Decrapifier released - USB power isolator
Hey guys, I wanted to try something stupid a couple of weekends back and plug the wyrd into my EMU0404 power for lols. During this experiment I ripped the Wyrd out from its case and took some measurements with a multimeter. During this process, it occurred to me why there are some people with...- firev1

yggdrasil technical measurements
Actually in the prototype which Purrin handled there may be some differences in 0 hour vs warmup changes that are very measureable and have considerable effect in audio frequencies. I know the Geek Out v1 can be measured for such differences easily.- firev1

Measured it, it mostly appears as common mode noise on short RCA runs. Nothing advanced like emi field visualizers just moving the cable and eyeballing the distance lol.- firev1

The Wyrd has a small emi footprint but nevertheless its best to place it further away from the amp. Its really very small compared to say the regular Audio GD R-cores/ chinese toroidal linear supplies.- firev1

It sounds like a clock or warm-up related issue. I'm not kidding. Hard to catch on static measurements sometimes but it can show up as an increase in low level jitter or poor handling of full scale signals. Try letting the unit completely cool off and try it again cold and fully warmed up.- firev1

The Wyrd might not help/make worse a system if your system is plague by ground loops. Or else it colors about as much as a laptop pc port lol. For poorly designed/ normal design usb implementations not limited to bus powered DACs/devices, the Wyrd might help.- firev1

Tiny DAC, Big Sound, Evolved – Stoner Acoustics UD100 / UD110 / UD120
Hey Kaiteck, do pm me, I have a UD120 I would love to let go, I'm local! The UD120 should be okay behind the desktop even with a bunch of cables. Will be happy to let you try out.- firev1

They would sound totally different since the digital implementations are very different at least in terms of their filtering choices.- firev1

Re: Noticeable improvement with the UD120, seems like not all Async applications are created equal. The Wyrd does not do sh1t with the Geek IEM but does some voodoo with the UD120- firev1

Tiny DAC, Big Sound, Evolved – Stoner Acoustics UD100 / UD110 / UD120
So I had requests asking to see whether the UD120 or async DACs could benefit from the Wyrd, the answer is a pretty clear yes in a measurements fashion. Test was done with separate laptops on battery for DAC and ADC to avoid ground noise.- firev1

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
This is true, some Aysnc applications take up a ton(relative to sync) of resource, particularly measurable in dpc latency compared to similar isochronous sync solutions. Sadly my UD120 got lost in the mail somewhere so I could not investigate the Wyrd with an asynchronous DAC but at least to say...- firev1

Schiit Decrapifier released - USB power isolator
You could start with a better tone first rather than call us out as circle jerks while pooing all over the thread. Well yeah it seems you should go back to SS or Hydrogenaudio since it seems you are little up for discussion given your "objective" predisposition. Schiit for one never marketed the...- firev1

EBay up "cm6631a SPDIF" and check out the stuff offered. Low jitter does not really have to break the bank. There are a couple of offerings that would be pretty good.- firev1

Schiit Decrapifier released - USB power isolator
dmdr Stereophile's review indicated already that your best bet would be to get a low jitter SPDIF solution if you would wish to get the most out of your Essence One since the USB input measurements looks to me like crap altogether, even $49 usb DACs do better than that. To the rest,I really...- firev1

Current Mode Amplifiers, how do they work?
Measurements of the HD600 into the Bakoon indicate that Current mode drive will change the frequency response. This is only suitable for Orthos. When they claim DF will not be issue, it means that the Damping Factor will not affect the amp's non-linear distortion(THD+N) which is true. There is a...- firev1

Tiny DAC, Big Sound, Evolved – Stoner Acoustics UD100 / UD110 / UD120
Yeah, just keep it stock and simple and add an amp or get a bigger battery. I had a friend used a 5V battery to power his Raspy Pi which gave him noise issues but YMMV if you really want to try a battery supply. /double facepalm on abuse of emc standards compliance, I give up, you win kay?- firev1

Tiny DAC, Big Sound, Evolved – Stoner Acoustics UD100 / UD110 / UD120
I don't feel that even a fully linear psu usb isolator would make any difference in the UD110mk2's design, the improvement is miniscule anyways. I feel that the point of the UD110mk2 is more to use it on its own. Just to point out, the medical grade stuff is more reliable, more safe against...- firev1

"Colouration" of a DAP's sound - How does it work?
Just went back to my measurements folders and did not find my Ipod one so I did a remeasure, also apologies, I was wrong about the high jitter part, the DX90 has the most jitter between the DX50 and Ipod4g. Reference is off by a little 2.7dBV=3dBFS. Measured with my SB1240 which has pretty good...- firev1

"Colouration" of a DAP's sound - How does it work?
You can find my DX50 measurements by googling them. I don't claim my results to be scientific proof or whatever. Equipment wise I use my fujitsu laptop is always on batteries with the EMU0404 or Creative SB1240 soundcard as the ADC so I would not count it as very scientific either, you are...- firev1

Tiny DAC, Big Sound, Evolved – Stoner Acoustics UD100 / UD110 / UD120
The ODAC comes up to me as a definite step above the UD110mk2 ime but depending on setup can be more difficult to get it working properly(mine loses lock easily). The UD110mk2 does its job at its price and is extreme value for money still though. I would spring for the CDAC+ straight alway. The...- firev1

"Colouration" of a DAP's sound - How does it work?
I did some testing for 3 players, Ibasso's DX50/90 and the Ipod 4g and they show different problems, some of them has marginal jitter performance(low frequency jitter) and the DX50 has marginal IMD performance. Choice of DACs like the 9018 can determine the signature of the DAP, even if the...- firev1
