A Charlie Brown Christmas by Vince Guaraldi
Well, the wide-discrete stereo effect was par for the course for alot of 60s popular music, not just jazz. This recording is no wild exception. The hiss isn't particularily bad either. The best tracks on the Charlie Brown are still 'Christmas Time' (instrumental) & 'Greensleeves' for the... -

X-Can V2 Valves
The JJ valves were interesting sounding w/ big imaging and soundstage, but didn't sound right to me. The highs became soft, dark, distant, and flat from the X-Can. Very smooth, though. I messed around with some other tubes in it, like the Siemens, which offered incredible midrange & detail...- BenG

HeadAmp.com's Gilmore Dynamic Headphone Amplifier Review

Best female vocal music?
I think some of these current audiophile divas like Jane Monheit, Norah Jones, and recent Diana Krall albums are pale imitations of some of the more classic vocalists. There seems to be a depressing lack of jazz & pop vocalists these days. IMHFO, as usual. Some names that aren't mentioned... -

Who's going to the superbowl?
I saw the highlights of the 49ers game, & I saw that Raiders-Niners game. That kicker... Get rid of kickers and call it something else than football. Then the Niners would have a chance again.- BenG

Quick impressions from the NYC meet at Grado labs
Portable --> Corda I tried connecting a Pana SL-S120(which outputs at .6V). I will say that you have to jack up the volume on the Corda much higher than you would with my full-size players (which output at 2V+) & the sound suffers because of it. The Corda is not designed for portable...- BenG

Sony MDR-V6's
3. It depends. I thought the 280s were better balanced (usually a top priority to me), with bigger imaging, but were lacking in dynamics, had a plasticky high-end, and flat upper bass, all of this resulting in a sound that was somewhat incoherent & strange compared to what I'm used to. I would...- BenG

Looking for Vibraphone music
I would get the Verve Very Tall first, NOT the 'Very Tall Band' (w/ 3 of the same personell) on Telarc. Bags & Wes (K2 version) is a favorite. I would also consider Memories of Thelonious Sphere Monk (live recording around 1982) by Milt jackson w/ Ray Brown & Monty Alexander on Pablo/OJC... -

Headphone power amp?
Geez. 'Headphone amps' (as we know them) are really integrated amps, not power amps. The post is asking why there are no mini-power amps designed for headphones. in theory, if you are using a preamp (with multiple pre-outs) in the chain, wouldn't a mini-power amp that is simple (with no...- BenG
