Grado RA-1 amp is a piece of crap!

aeber, presumably certain parts of the design (if only the external design) are patented. It's possible to patent a particular circuitry, isn't it? Your question actually makes me wonder...anybody who knows the answer to this, please post. John

    mozart

Yeah, try Mozart's symphonies 40 and 41. Both are very, very good. However, I don't buy into the whole "classical music for dummies" thing. The best thing you can do is buy a primer on actual music, and actually learn how to follow along with a score as you listen to a piece of music. This...

Grado RA-1 amp is a piece of crap!

Yet one more reply: I think it might be helpful to tell everybody that I got the amp for 250, which is a far cry from the 350 retail. At this price, it's easy to see where the money is going. After all, it must take several hours of SKILLED labor to make the amp. Not to mention fees that...

Airplane Hijacking prevention system is a joke, need to overhaul it.

The government is generally always going to be an inaccurate judge of who the "right" person to carry a gun is. The thought of having to get the government's consent to carry a gun is (obviously) a violation of the second amendment. That being said, guns could have done quite a bit to prevent...

Curiosity Killed This Cat/A Grado trial

The Grado magic is alive and well. I had my RS-1 and was very happy with it...But just to make sure that I didn't get ripped off, I bought a used pair of HD-580s....I plugged them into my RA-1 (granted, not the best amp for them), and was suddenly very pleased I had bought the RS-1. Yeah, I...

Major (non-headphone) political heads-up for US residents

laissez faire! This law is absurd. It's like making the average citizen go out and buy a collar that will shock them whenever they do anything illegal. It treats typical citizens like common criminals. However, I must say that freedoms go both ways. Copyright laws are very necessary, and...

    Grado question: HELP !

M Rael, I know this isn't really relevant to this thread, but I used to go to school at St. John's in Santa Fe. I miss it! A very nice place to take long drives!

    ULTIMATE BURN IN CD!

yeah, I think that Jude or some other very kind audiophile (JMT?) should buy it and sell copies to everyone for 10 bucks

    RCA splitters

bump and I was curious if there is any inexpensive way to do this? I don't really want to go in the direction of another amp because I'm afraid that this would definitely downgrade the quality of the signal (unless I dished out a ton of money). Also, I'm wondering if there is a simple switch one...

    RCA splitters

Hi, My Denon 370 is in need of two outputs (at least two), and I was wondering what would happen if I used an RCA splitter on its output.....Would sound quality be noticably downgraded because of the number of extra things between my phones and the original jacks? Would it be degraded because...

    Your favourite headphones...pros and cons

My favorite is the RS-1, however, I also own the Senn HD 580 (Though I haven't had it for long). The pros: 1. they somehow add "space" to the music you listen to. However you want to describe this, as the "grado sound" or whatever. It seems like you're listening to music, not speakers...

    For audio only CD-Rs

The audio only discs are designed for component (audio) cd burners. no marketing ploy involved. However, they will work with computer burners as well. (but the computer discs won't work with the audio burners)

    Sennheiser HD580 modification

maybe this is too obvious to mention, but doesn't this mod make the senns similar to the structure of the RS-1 and the other Grados with the chamber?

Decided to start a new thread because minds in a rut :(

If the RS-1 is anything like the 325, it can be run out of a portable but not very well. I got m y RS-1 about a week before I received the RA-1 to run it with. I used various sources with it, but none could run it to sufficient volume levels (this isnt' true with receivers and bigger components...

Decided to start a new thread because minds in a rut :(

I wouldn't reccomend using the RS-1 for portable use. The SR-325 seems well suited, however, due to it being built out of metal. My RS-1 had dings in the mahogany within days of receiving it....and it's not as though I was careless with it, or anything.... As much as I disliked the sound...

    What Would You Recommend Me?

I'm with the whole condom thing, dude. Haven't video games lost their fun yet? Well, at any rate... I used to own the Ety's...and one night, I was sitting around listening to my RS-1's and decided to put on my ety's for a second for the hell of it.....I did a complete 180 on them...

    DAC Questions

Hi, I've been surfing the net for information on DAC's. However, what I've found is that used units seem to be going for much less than new ones. For instance, on Ebay I found two Muse II (which could be a couple years old) for less than 500. Is this a good DAC, or would I be better off looking...

    Grado Service Question

No, you're not being picky. They're expensive headphones and you shouldn't have to put tape on them to keep them up and running Although I've never dealt with Grado personally, somebody the other day made the comment that Grado service was "the best." Good luck!

    headphone + (optional) amp = $500

I can hunt down an individual out of california that can sell you the RS-1 for less than 550 and the RA for 259. If you're interested (I was, using them now, email me at Phlosopher@aol.com. He might also be able to get you a good deal on the 325s. By the way, I wouldn't suggest you get the...
