Definitely the cost. $1500 for a college student was just too much. I still can't really justify them. lol.

    Grado Fan Club!

Wow. Congrats. I might have a Grado problem. I want all of them. I've heard the PS1 back in the day but couldn't justify buying them.

    Grado Fan Club!

Congratulations! One of my biggest regrets is selling these. Really smooth sound. After a meandering journey, I've come back full circle to Grados and my daily driver is the RS1e. Initially hated the sound and then tried playing around with other pads. They sound perfect with the Vever pads...

Grado Hemp Limited Edition Headphone - Pre-Order

A change in pads will change any headphone sound generally. There is definitely some advantages to go it with grados. For example, I highly prefer the RS1e sound with G cushion pads instead of the ones that come with it.

Thanks. I think coming back to this hobby has helped my mental health a little during this lockdown.

Help needed: Audio Technica ATH-W10VTG head pads replacement

Hello all. It’s been a long time since I’ve been active here. Life happened and I’m finally finding the time to get back into headphones. My W10VTG has been in storage for a while and I’ve noticed that the head pads (not sure of the technical term) are deteriorating. Does anyone have any...

Sennheiser PXC 550 Discussion and Reviews

I'm using a dell laptop and have been in a zoom chat for over an hour and it wasn't a problem. Hopefully someone who uses a mac can chime in. I've used it over an hour on my iphone too and it's fine.

Sennheiser PXC 550 Discussion and Reviews

I wonder what our decibel thresholds are. I find the headphones to be plenty loud, even on a plane.

Sennheiser PXC 550 Discussion and Reviews

I’m surprised by the comments that the headphones is not loud enough. I’ve used it on a flight listening to podcasts and never once did I max out the volume. The phone function is also solid. Really happy I bought this. I haven’t tried the Sony though.

Sennheiser PXC 550 Discussion and Reviews

I can't speak for the 598/599. I have the 595 and overall the 595 has better sound quality when in a controlled environment. They serve different purposes. If you could only have 1, then I'd say, stick with the 550 because it's so versatile.

The pxc550 goes on sale quite frequently. I got mine for $250. I forgot if it was frys or buydig.

Sennheiser PXC 550 Discussion and Reviews

Don’t get me wrong. I like the stock sound but the EQ settings just allows that little bit more “air” in the sound. Also it’s nice to be able to boost the bass in noisy environments. It’s pretty comfortable. I’m average build and it’s just enough room for my eyes. I can see how someone who’s...

Sennheiser PXC 550 Discussion and Reviews

Just picked this up. I’m a Bluetooth convert. I’ve been anti Bluetooth for a long time. I only picked this up because my job requires lots of video conferencing. Saw these on frys for $250. What the heck. The call quality on this is amazing. It’s so convenient. It pairs up in an instance. I...

Damping Mechanical Energy Distortion of STAX and other phones with SORBOTHANE and other materials.

It would be nice to be able to compare. I suppose it's cheap enough to get both sorbs.

Read this. http://www.head-fi.org/t/658673/yamaha-hph-mt220-thread-merged/1845#post_11897944   Doing the sorb mod with the hybrid pads makes the yammies delicious. =)

Have you done the sorb mod? It reduces the highs, tightens the bass and brings out the mids.

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

I just got my Amazon warehouse very good condition X2. On the box, it says 2014 Woox. So I'm guessing this is an old stock. Took off the pads, no glue. The round plates are perfectly placed. No sound imbalance. Sounds awesome. Very different than my modded HE400 but I like the sound. It doesn't...

**Hifiman HE-400 Impressions and Discussion Thread**

The difference between pleather and velour and whatever other material is not the reproduction of the bass but the acoustics in the chamber between the headphones and your ears. The velour is a more absorbent material. The pads are merely used to refine the sound, not define it.

Best pads to me are the brainwavz velour. Just the regular ones, not angled. You will need to trim the plastic mount to fit the pads. Also must do sorb mod.
