    Grado SR80 Impressions thread!

I have large ears and they are exquisitely uncomfortable, I believe they are best for people with average/small ears. bass is thin. not especially sensitive. a lot of transparency otherwise, for the price.

^^^am very interested in hearing your description of the sound quality difference between the 600s and the 580s you got.

Sennheiser HD565 appreciation and service thread

i've owned the 560 model since the early 90s, and while they are my preferred set of cans for general music listening, they lack a certain transparency needed for remastering work, for which i use the HD580s. but no other headphones let me listen for hours without "ear burn" or sore ears, they...

    The Sennheiser HD580 Impressions Thread

I have both the 580 as well as the 565 model, and the latter is [compared to the 580] less transparent, a bit more prominent in the midrange, a tiny bit less extreme treble, a bit mellower on difficult material [poorly recorded, comparatively harsh-sounding recordings such as 78 rpm records]...

    Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners

high-enders might sniff at this, but at my local goodwill store I found a dusty grimy long-neglected pair of MCS 8330 "time aligned" 3-way bass-reflex speakers [12" woofer], and out of curiosity I hooked them up to an amp and played some music through them and found them to be surprisingly...

they've been around for a long time, I wish there was an audio store close to me so I could compare them to my senn hd580s.

had mine for about 2 decades now, I use them for critical audio restoration work and I haven't found anything else i'd trust for this. never got to hear the higher models but i'm guessing that the 650s probably have too much bass for my purposes.

if I was more mechanically apt i'd do that. the main problem with the 580s is something deep inside them starts rattling on the lower notes. sometimes if I grab tight around the frame the rattling lessens but not always.

^^^thank you for that info :) I hope the build quality is substantially more rugged than the 580s which in my case have vibrated themselves into buzzy uselessness in just a few years of daily use.

    The Sennheiser HD580 Impressions Thread

the 600s were just so much more expensive at the time I got my 580s that I just decided to stick with the 580s as they were sufficiently transparent for me to do my remastering work.

    Best closed headphones ~300

the best overall sub-300 closed cans I've found are the sennheiser hd449s. they are relatively sensitive, fairly neutral with decent bass linearity, open clear trebles, none of the "cupped" sound quality so common with closed cans. you will need an accessory amp with these when using mp3 players...

    Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners

back in the BCD days [Before CD] Japanese vinyl [and to a lesser extent European vinyl] were by and large the only listenable product out there, the lions' share of American vinyls were comparatively distorted and sounded mediocre at best.

have you ever seen actual electronics with the foster electronics [maker of radio shack electronics] name on it? anyways, I wonder how the CV speakers sound compared to the nova 6's? mine have unexpected bass extension in-room to about 30 cycles [usable], at least with the pioneer receiver. I...
