Schiit Decrapifier released - USB power isolator

Just use a plug that fits and connect it.   The Wyrd has a bridge rectifier at its power input. Normally there will be a 6 V RMS sine wave feeding the Wyrd. This sine wave has a peak value of approx 9 V. So by applying 9 VDC, only one path of the rectifier will conduct and charge the capacitor...

    Schiit Ragnarok Amplifier

That "sounds" really good. I hope to see a reliable review on short term, because at these prices just buying one in good faith is no longer an option for me. In Europe Schiit is hardly mentioned in the popular magazines. I would love to see the Ragnarok and Yggdrasil appear in for example WhatHifi.

It would be a big surprise to me if the in-house developments would be more than clocking and filtering. In my line of business for example, we stopped making our own ASICs because we simply cannot compete against the specialists who can easily throw 100 or 200 engineers against a SOC solution...

I'm running the Wyrd for weeks on end using a 230 VAC -> 9 VDC adapter. It is feeding my DragonFly DAC. I guess if you stay away from the max load of 1 A towards your DAC, you can repeat this trick. Most DACs have their own power supply anyway and do not draw any current at all. Warranty void...

Does anyone know why there is a rocket logo on some NOS tubes?

    Valhalla 2 review coming soon!

Oops, I did not mean to create an atmosphere that there was something wrong with the Valhalla. I'm using it myself with great pleasure.   From a technical point of view: Measuring the output impedance is only half the story for a single ended amp anyway. These amps can have asymmetrical...

    Valhalla 2 review coming soon!

If you like to consider complex loads too, you could measure the output impedance against frequency. All the reactiveness is ideally sinked by a low output impedance. That is actually one of the improvements between Valhalla and Valhalla 2, the update can sink more current from the load.

Yep, in Holland the government no longer seems to be there for the citizens. It has been reversed. We also must pay 52% income tax above an equivalent of 70k USD per year. Below that it is "only" 42% and 37%. We really took a wrong turn somewhere, and I think it is going to hit us hard in the...

I also noticed that the Valhalla (1) I once ordered from Sonority took longer to arrive than the equipment I directly ordered from Schiit USA.   They cannot start selling the Wyrd since currently it is 110 VAC only, but not selling the success number Valhalla 2 keeps me in the dark because if...

    Valhalla 2 review coming soon!

The 220 [Ohm] depends on what you want to see. White cathode followers have their max distortion at the lowest load impedance. Or maybe you want something that is closest to the load you are going to use, 300 [Ohm] for example. Anyway I think you are going to find most (but little) distortion on...

Some real examples since I recently ordered some Schiit equipment, everything is in Euros and including shipping:   Valhalla 2, payed 300.71 to Schiit. FedEx charged me 89.47 extra afterwards. Wyrd, payed 92.47 to Schiit. PostNL charged me 28.33 extra afterwards.

I have the strong feeling shipping companies charge some mystic max figure and pass through less to the authorities. Also I think they just look for a figure on the bill and start using that for all calculations. That way you end up paying tax over tax and also the highest rate over everything...

I hope this the Schiit fan section, I'm a believer.   To get back to the Wyrd, I think it has 2 applications:  - The first one is to solve any USB audio issues if you happen to suffer from them.  - The second one is to power DACs that do not have a decent power supply themselves.   Audio...

    Valhalla 2 review coming soon!

Just removed the ear pads from my Shure SRH1840 and switched the power of the Valhalla 2 on and off, not the slightest movement of the membrane could be seen. Also using my Sennheiser HD558 which is see-through, not the slightest movement. (Sorry no videos.)   That is it for me. I'm out of...

    Valhalla 2 review coming soon!

LOL, not much fighting there.   Please do not mix up things. Valhalla produces a little DC current due to the single ended end stage. The HP coil responds with relative high voltage to prevent movement.   Asgard is capable of high current and has a push pull end stage with a DC servo. The DC...

    Valhalla 2 review coming soon!

BTW, the voltage created by the coil does not result in a movement of the membrane, it tries to avoid the movement that way... That is what coils do, try to keep everything the way it was.

    Valhalla 2 review coming soon!

If you want to measure the contribution of the Valhalla, you need to disconnect the headphone and terminate with a resistor. The headphone is a coil, if you try to get DC through it, it fights back by creating a high voltage in the opposite direction.   Also to prevent a ground loop or short...

If I see numbers like that I suspect the guy has a ground issue in his measurement set-up. Maybe he should download the internet and search for "ground loop" and "common-mode".

    Valhalla 2 review coming soon!

You are absolutely right, a single ended output stage needs decoupling to block the DC. But there can always be a transient during on/off, charging/decharging the decoupling capacitor. In this case: P = U^2 / R = (100 mV)^2 / 32 = 0.3 mW. To my understanding that does not push the coil/membrane...

    Valhalla 2 review coming soon!

For what it is worth, in practice I do not have any problems combining my Shure SRH1840 (65 [Ohm]) with the Valhalla 2. It is always plugged in and I even switch between low-gain and high-gain live (cans on my head). Potential DC doesn't make it to the membrane anyway it is dampened by the...

AudioQuest Dragonfly Review : Affordable, Outstanding, Tiny DAC / Amp

Schiit Decrapifier released - USB power isolator

Running the Wyrd now on 9 VDC for some time (230 VAC -> 9 VDC adapter) and no issues encountered. I use the Wyrd mainly to power my DragonFly so it becomes independent from the computer's noisy power-supply. The DragonFly only consumes little power however...

Schiit Decrapifier released - USB power isolator

Did anyone run this device on 9V DC already (1.41 x 6V AC)? I see a rectifier bridge on the PCB, D3, so it should be okay. I live in The Netherlands, we have 230 V AC coming from the power outlets so I cannot use the Wall-Wart from Schiit. My AudioQuest DragonFly will benefit from Wyrds cleaner...
