Chord Hugo TT High End DAC Amp Impressions Thread

More than three years after, the TT1 always brings me so much pleasure to listen all type of music. I like it so much that I never try to replace it. Am l being treated? Kindly.

Chord Hugo TT High End DAC Amp Impressions Thread

I used the TT with active monitors (PSI Audio) during more than one year. For me there is absolutely no degradation with the digital volume. The TT has better SQ than any monitor controller. Now I use the TT with an amplifier and still continue to use digital volume and digital inputs.

For me, the remote control problem has almost disappeared since I protected the remote control with a small transparent freezing bag !? I always appreciate the TT as much as at the begining. It can be heard in situtation via the link in my signature. Please use a headphone to listen .

Mutec is used mainly as USB to spdif/AES/optical interface. The original frequency is not modified and is not upsampled. So there should be no difference for the TT.

After one year of extensive use of the TT, I am always very pleased with the SQ of the TT.   With its spdif input via a Mutec reclocker or Yellowtec Puc2, it is the best DAC (without take into accout of the MSB Select Dac) that I listened or owned. The most "analog" sound !

I already mention this kind of problem in the post #545.   No comment from Chord about this problem.

I use a Yellowtec Puc 2 with a linear power supply or sometimes a RME babyface Pro.   For my taste, the Yellowtec brings smoothness, realism, less digital signature and more a comprehensive soundstage.

I have the issue of the remote with the TT that I tested and after with the TT that I received. For the tested TT, this problem appears more frequently than for my unit.

Yes Rob ! The plastic fiber that I used was the culprit. I exchange it with the fiber provided with the TT and it works for sample rate greater than 96 kHz.   Thanks.

I have a question for the users of the Hugo.   Actually, my Hugo seems to be unable to recognize the sample rates of 176 and 192 kHz via the optical digital input. The coax input works perfectly.   I tried the optical digital output of my squeezebox touch (enhanced digital output mode). The...

My amplified monitors are connected to the unbalanced (RCA) output. For my taste, I found them better than the balanced especially the attack and the transparency. But with the unbalanced cables, I had to move away a supply (linear supply for USB 5V) because it was producing an hum in my monitors !

Today, I compared with the TT my Yellowtec Puc2 USB to AES (ASIO driver) converter to a Raspberry PI using piCorePlayer (linux platform) and a Hifiberry digi + audio card. Subjectively, they sound a little different in tone. But the human perception is not an exact measurement. I tend to be wary...

@andyschaub: thanks for your answer. In digital domain, most of the time there is no problem to transmit digital data. But electric cables are subject to propagate noise which has effect on the last step which is the digital to analog conversion. I agree that a digital cable has an effect on the...

I read on  the 6moons review that the Hugo TT (or Hugo)  uses batteries also to provide an isolation from the noise from the mains supply.   I have a question.   I use the optical input of the TT. If it could be measured that the streamer (SB Touch or Raspberry PI with digi+ sound card)...

I read the favorable comments about digital optical input of Rob.   So I tried this input of the TT with my stock Squeezebox Touch (all other digital inputs disconnected). The Touch via its spdif coaxial output did not convince me on the differents DACs that I had in the past compared to the...

To finish I decided to command the TT because it is the best DAC I ever heard and test at home.   My taste fit with the manner the dac present the music : analog, bodied and transparent sound reproduction  with marvellous transients,  with the advantages of the digital without its inconvenients.

Chord Hugo TT High End DAC Amp Impressions Thread

I listened the Hugo TT during about one week. I own a Hugo and a Mojo. I played TT in the same conditions than those I use with my Hugo which is used as digital preamplifier for mid-field full range amplified system (response at -6dB : 24Hz – 23kHz). So, I used it with its coaxial spdif input...

I think that the xlr output are balanced electronically. So there are more electronic components on the audio signal path as resistors, op amps and capacitors. I tested the TT and the balanced outputs are less transparent than the unbalanced output.

I tested the Bel Canto e.One DAC3.5VB D/A. For my taste, it was not able to reproduce as well as a Hugo the richness and the variety of music instrument in the treble register (for example the richness of the hit-hat or of the cymbals of a drum kit).

I would like to test the TT but it is not really easy to find it in France in demonstration or to test it.   I read that Rob said that the TT was darker than the Hugo.   Any comments about this ?

I tested for more than one week (option with VAR Bulk Metal® Foil de Vishay Foil Resistors) a TOTAL Dac Ref D1 Single more than 2 years ago. The sonic signature was too "aliased" sound for me. For my taste, many qualities and some defaults I can accept at this level of price. Additionally, the...
