I'm not old I'm 21. Maybe I'm just not sensitive to the treble spike. Also the amp/dac I'm using is the Creative Sound Blaster X7 with the stock amps replaced with the Burson Supreme Sound Opamp V5i.

I'm planning to buy it on Amazon and if I don't it like better over the HD 800, I could just send it back and get a refund.

What do you mean by "driver positioning"? Are the drivers not sitting at the same exact position? Also I have no problem purchasing the HD 800 S. I have the cash. But I don't want to buy the HD 800 S and not hear much difference over the HD 800 that I rented from Lumoid for 2 weeks. As I said...

Some people  Some people don't even have amps that use the XLR connection, so having a extra cable for those individuals is useless for them. 

Well the HD 800 is $978 on amazon's website here in the USA. The HD 800 S is 1,699 on amazon.

Were you using a pair of duals or singles? I have the Sound Blaster X7 and bought a pair of Duals and Singles. I know the X7 doesn't have a balanced connection but the X7 is an all arounder. It has optical audio for my PS4 PRO and PS3 and bluetooth. I have yet to find a amp/dac that does what...

I just want to mention you might can fit the huge Burson V5 op-amp in the X7 if you disassemble the X7 and use a op-amp extension cable.

That's funny because I rented the HD 800 from Lumoid and using it on my sound blaster X7 and it doesn't sound harsh at All. I don't hear the 6 Khz treble spike people are talking about.

When you say full potential what do you mean? Are you saying it won't get loud like it suppose to? Or that it want reveal every nuance in recordings like a more expensive amp/dac? I'm also a gamer so I'd like to have a device I can connect my PS4 and PS3 trough optical audio. The X7 also does...
