Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Of course, audiophiles being audiophiles you keep the boxes around because you want to be able to sell the gear at some point and get different gear, and having the original boxes makes that a lot easier. Of course, if you're the head of company that makes all the gear you use, you might not...- ericrosenfield

Holo Audio Cyan 2 DAC
As a purely subjective data point, I got a Matrix X-SPDIF3 and tried going direct USB to Cyan 2 and then going USB->SPDIF3->I2S->Cyan 2 and it sounds noticeably better to me. YMMV however, and I don't have the equipment to measure jitter or anything like that.- ericrosenfield

Holo Audio Cyan 2 DAC
Looking at my electricity bill, I'm paying about 17¢ per kilowatt hour. According to this online calculator, leaving the DAC on 24/7 costs me about 8¢ a day or about $30/year. Obviously $30 is $30, but I suppose it's a price I'm willing to pay.- ericrosenfield

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Sometimes I have to scroll up to make sure I’m still reading the right thread. Question for @Jason Stoddard if he’s willing to answer—most of your amps use discrete designs because you say you prefer it. (With obvious exceptions like the Heretic.) yet your DACs as far as I can tell still use...- ericrosenfield

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Hi. If I said "some people see red as grey," that's not an opinion, it's a fact. Some people are color blind and therefore see red as gray. What the color actually "is" is immaterial; color is a perception anyway. 607.9nm wavelength is not color, color is something that happens in your brain...- ericrosenfield

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Well, we're just sharing our experience. We're not trying to take anything away from anyone. If you don't think you're sensitive to treble issues (and you probably know if you are) then you probably won't have a problem with the Bifrost or whatever else. Even if you are sensitive to treble...- ericrosenfield

Sorry, I actually realize what I wrote was more defensive than I intended. Apologies to Jason. I actually just got an Aegir (lovely!) but I already sold my Bifrost 2. (If you'd like to lend me another BF2 and a pair of Tyrs I'll be happy to try them together ;) )- ericrosenfield

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Hi Jason, I say this with all due respect because I genuinely love your products and have happily handed over quite a bit of money to your company, but it's not my opinion that I hear an uncomfortable itchiness using the Bifrost 2, it's a fact. I do. I did say it was something "some people are...- ericrosenfield

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Nah, Schiit DACs (and others) are known to have a prickliness (aka "treble f*ckery") that some people are sensitive to. See the helpful chart at SBAF here: #190- ericrosenfield

I had the same sense of prickliness with the BF2/64 and (to a lesser extend) the BF2 OG. According to Purr1n of SBAF the Multibit Schiit DAC that's most free of it is the Yggdrasil LIM.- ericrosenfield

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Actually, after googling I did find a power strip with a 12V trigger, so that is an option! Still, it seems weird that Schiit doesn't support this feature that most other power amps do, and so I have to find a third party solution.- ericrosenfield

Wouldn't that still require me to separately turn on the amp (even if it's with my smartphone or whatever), or are there power strips with 12V triggers?- ericrosenfield

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
That's interesting! Do they list anywhere what the impedance is with and without feedback? What you'd want for high-impedence headphones would be something that makes the impedance particularly high. The Singxer SA-1 is 11.4 ohms in high-z, Holo Bliss goes up to 18 ohms, while the ZMF Homage...- ericrosenfield

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
One thing you sometimes see on other amps that Schiit hasn't done so far is adjustable output impedance. Like imagine if the Mjolnir 3, in addition to all the other toggles it has, also had a low z/high z switch and what that might do for Sennheiser or ZMF cans. Seems like a fun idea. Also I...- ericrosenfield

CanJam NYC 2024 (March 9-10, 2024)
Looking forward to this. I hope Schiit brings the Mjolnir and Aune brings the S17 Pro, so I can compare them. Wonder if Schiit will also have a Pietus Maximus. Don't see Nitch as a vendor, but I could see Schiit bringing one along? If Jason's listening, I'd also like to try the Yggy LIM!- ericrosenfield

What does it mean that it's both "bright" and "neutral"? Doesn't "bright" mean it has elevated treble?- ericrosenfield
