completely disagree with this review, and frankly how is that a headphone's fault that is "over hyped" ? I guess it would be OK to use the phrase "underappreciated" among the pros then as well?
@LajostheHun Sorry, let me reiterate. What I mean is that because everyone has one people tend to turn a blind eye on other better options which cost around the same. Many people that I know who own the M50s know nothing better because they were "bought-in" to the craze people tend to give it (especially famous YouTubers who have little/no experience in audio).
How about the dt770's 80 or 32 ohm? Are those as good or better than the m50's?
I already had a m50 with no x.... also thought they sounded ok.... great bass.... but overall, next to my amperiors and hd25's.... not a chance... the highs indeed sound too artificial and plasticky and they are too v shaped.... usually i use my hd25's with a rock or eletroniq eq on my ipod touch and that gives them just a tiny bit stronger bass and makes them just a tiny bit v shaped and that is perfect for me.... when i had the m50,s without any eq they already sound too v shaped.... the hd25's destroys them in fast paced rock for example.... stuff like artic monkeys, maximo park.... eletric guitars sound like a treat on the hd25's.... i even prefer the more even sound of the hd25's to the amperiors...
Its not that the m50's are bad.... i just did not like them that much....
Can anyone please tell me if the dt770's sound closer to the hd25's than the m50's?
Agree, except for the statement about the M40x. I have them, they don't sound similar at all. Both by m40 and m30 are in the closet unused. I do recommend checking out HD25 and their variations, including the Amperiors.
m50x are a great fun sounding set of $150 cans that should be priced at $100. They are by no means accurate. Using these as mixdown cans could result in a bass anemic, mid-forward mix. They are fine for monitoring or tracking - but mixdown needs a flat revealing set of cans, and the m50x are not that. Great for listening to music too - probably the best choice for $100. That is, unless the Amperiors are $100 - and guess what - the Amperiors are being blown out right now for $100.
