Great write-up, and totally in line with my experience so far. I'm comparing to the Alpha Primes, and soon the Sennheiser HD-800S's. But for the most part, I could plagiarize your comments and call them my own.

It makes me feel more "normal" since after comparing the HE1000 & HE-X I also decided to keept the HE-X, and this decision was not based on price but on listening enjoyment: for me the HE-X was more intimate and more enjoyable. (may be also because chosed the HE-X because I have a BHSE + SR009 on order, so I will use the electrostatic set-up when I want maximal precision/definition, and the HE-X complement better the SR009's sound signature)
