Wait i'm confused, I ordered the ultrasone dj1 pro just a few days ago off amazon and paid only 150AUD for them (compared to headphonic's price 300AUD) they are on their way to me right now, amazon was perfectly fine with me being in Australia, don't tell me you paid 250AUD for the HFI 580.

..Hoping not.
They haven't shipped yet, or taken money from paypal and I've hit them up with an email. I'll call them Monday morning to confirm. Any idea how long the sale on Amazon goes for on the 580's ($130 seems like an amazing price). Or is that not a sale and just the regular price... :\

Don't know how long the sale is going to be on but dj1 (non-pro) is the same as the hfi580 (only difference is the colors, I think) so if the hfi580 sale ends you can still look for good deals on the dj1

good luck

There are a couple of Amazon resellers around the same price and the 680s are also at the same sort of price ($137), so my instinct is its not a sale. Not much way to tell for sure, though.

Well hey. Given I was going to pay a huge amount for the 580's, if anyone is willing to suggest something that'd end up being around $200 all up that'd be great (not including shipping). I figure if I'm going to go up from the 580's I'll need a headphone amp and a soundcard. The FiiO E5 came up, is that considered a decent amp? Also what's the best bang for your buck yet cheap amp?

Bonus points: If the item is here http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/PARTS.pdf , that's awesome.
And if you can find it http://www.staticice.com.au/ here, that is too.

Thanks ♥.

good to hear that you didn't lose your money, the fiio e7 might be something you'd be interested in, think of it as a usb sound card with the fiio e5 inside it, the battery life on the e7 is 80+ hours and that is hard to beat.

Well that sounds like it does absolutely everything I was hoping. Can't ship it to Aus from Amazon but the place I was going to order my headphones from it's only $110 which seems to be a fair price. Ebay shows one from hong kong for $90 all up but I'd have no idea if it's a legit product. Thanks for all the help, much appreciated.

I pretty sure you are looking at the headphonic website, I'd say go with it, it costs around $15 to have the e7 delivered from overseas and its a lot slower where as headphonic has free shipping. There is only a $5 ish difference and the speed is worth it. They have a store in Perth as well so if you live close you can just go and pick it up yourself.

Yeah that's basically where I've been looking for everything so far. I just went with what I knew (staticice) and went from there. In terms of headphones and such (clearly) I have no idea where to pick anything up from.
Worked out the rough costs of everything and it should end up being almost exactly the same price grabbing the 580's from amazon and the e7 from headphonic as it would grabbign just the 580's. If there's any other good stores that ship to Australia for future references that are great for this sort of gear, feel free to let me know. :)

When all the gear arrives (hopefully ordering everything tomorrow) I'll probably do a follow up post here.

I just made this post in reddit, as the 580's arrived a few days ago and I said I might do a follow up.
So here it is:

They seem really durable, I'd be surprised if they snapped on me any time soon. They seem to have a fairly strong build all around and can collapse into a tiny bundle. The cord is pretty long but that's not really a problem if you just tie some of it up. They sound fine unamped, I got a fiio e7 and while I notice a difference in sound quality I wouldn't call it essential to get with these headphones, as they seem reasonably easy to drive anyway and the sound difference isn't dramatic.

In terms of sound they seem really balanced (I've listened to ipod earbuds and some logitech headset so.. my standards have been low) but the bass is the most noticeable thing. Really clear and nice sounding. Also the high range is amazing to hear, I was listening to some Tool as I heard their recordings are great quality and heard an entirely new vocal line that I've never heard before in one song.

The only problem I have with these is that they're bigger than I expected, the headband is fine, but the actual bits over your ears [what's the word for that?] is quite big. This isn't really a problem just makes them a little less portable and I feel like they'd be a little conspicuous wearing them around. All this said they look really nice, sound really nice and feel durable for a pretty nice price. After wearing for a few hours they can start to get uncomfortable, but it's not bad enough to take them off. :)

Hope this helps somebody that stumbles upon this thread researching the cans.
Thanks for all the help picking them, everyone. :)

Glad you liked your cans

The 580 sounded neutral to you? They are supposed to be more bassy then my PRO550 which is what I'd consider neutral. Guess you are a huge basshead then. Consider a bass boosting amp as your next purchase?

Haha maybe, hard to say. I thought it was just a nice warm bass that just sounded natural and didn't feel like it was anywhere near overpowering. The fiio e7 has a bass boosting eq on it but so far I've gone without it as I think that's where it starts to go from nice to nearly too much.

What kind of volume are you listening to your 580 with? I normally listen at lower volumes then my preferred volume to protect my hearing. Increase/decrease your volume by about 10db for 5 minutes and you can hear a dramatic difference in the amount of bass, and how does EQ affect your soundstage btw? EQ changes the soundstage on my PRO550 completely and everything sounds like they were moved 1 meter behind me.

a bit late to mention this now, but it's a bit odd how nobody mentioned the Alessandro MS1i considering that it has free shipping worldwide. You save so much money that you can buy a FiiO E7 without feeling guilty.
