we get your point @droido256. it's been made many, many times before here by folks who seem to miss the point that this is the high-end forum, where the law of diminishing returns applies and analogies to cars and houses predicated on notions of price/performance ratio and value for money don't.

Listened to Shangrila's today for about 15 minutes.Didn't like them much and i expected them to sound stellar.Excellent L-R imaging but frontstage is almost absent. They sound warm and little bit unbalanced and they didn't throw me into music.

In comparison to what?  Are you a 009 owner?

If you can, please elaborate. Are there any headphones you can compare them to? Did you audition them with their own amplification system or something else?

The Shangri-La back at SoCal did not thrill me either. But I only listened briefly so I refrained from posting anything definitive.
I am not a big fan of the 009 though. I do was pretty blown away by the estat Ether...
I do like the HEK sound better than the way Shangri-La/009 as a whole. Just more engaging to me, which is why the estat Ether [and the regular open Ether] appealed to me.
I did quite like the new Staxes that were shown there

New Stax????? Is it a new flagship?????????? Please elaborate !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No. It is the two lower priced offerings. I think one was under 999$ and the other was around 1499$ or slightly more. I think they also have corresponding amplifiers but thet might have been the ones currently available.
Idid like the sound for the money! :)

There hasn't bee a post in this thread for 22 days. I wonder if this combined with the lack luster / hyperboleless review will cause Hifiman to do more design tweaking and rethink the price.
