Buying a better IEM will beat the sound of an iem with a better cable. The differences from a cable are smaller than a different iem

Very true. Tons of factors involved.

ahhh i see....Thanks :) wonder why do they cost so much for so little though.....many other things I could buy with that amount haha like the rhapsodio cables holy crap they cost so much

I guess easy money most of the time. Recently I wanted to have banana plugs on my speaker cable. Looked into pre-made cables, ehh no not at those prices. Ended up with buying loose plugs and doing it myself. Original cable was sufficient in my opinion. There is a lot measurable but is it audible (to you), that's the question.

Just tested. The Axon 7's DAC has a lot of added bass making it less than ideal for driving the PM4. I preffer the sound out of my Nexus 6P despite the 6P having a worse DAC on paper.

Yeah. The details are a little smeared through the Axon 7.

Cheers for getting back to me. A little disappointing to hear, but good to know.

I had enough time to try my PM4 with my work tablet (Surface Pro 3) this morning, they definitely benefit from the extra juice! The sound stage seemed a lot bigger in the vertical plane, a bit more enveloping. I've also discovered I don't need to run them at anywhere near 50% volume on my M8 if I'm playing local files through Poweramp. I don't even have the preamp activated and I still can't get past ~30% without earhurt.Playing off Plex or Spotify, on the other hand yields a much quieter output, probably to do with both of them using the Android audio engine.

now since yesterday I experienced a very strange thing, twice, hope it will not repeat, but would like to ask here if somebody had same experience, will try to explain what I am talking about, its not like when left driver just switches off fully, but like CD jumping on as bad/scratched  recording, like there is a not a full contact between driver and the cable, now left driver thing happened to few of us, but this is a different type of problem, I just hope it will not happen again, but if somebody had that experience please let me know

...What cable are you using? I only ask because I have experienced this when I used the headset cable on both my Pm4 and my Vyrus. The braided cable (no memory wire) has been fine in both cases.

I never use headset cables, so that is not an issue here, but thanks for your suggestion !

Posted this in Air thread but seeing no-one ever seems to read it, hope it is ok to cross post my question:

Curious if any news on what stormtrooper edition coating as presumably it won't be anodised?

here's the thing right bud, I read peoples impressions on here and elsewhere about other products and I don't always agree. Thing is, if they have a diff set up to me then their impression will be different to mine. What I can say is that the pm4 with my set up with them two filters, for my music, sounds awesome! I would think it would take serious investment to make a worthwhile upgrade worth it. Mojo was £400 when I bought it and the pm4 I had in black friday sale. I think most people would be pretty impressed with the sound.

I actually have the c5 amp, love it!

Im also about to turn 29 so still fairly young and high frequencies don't seem to bother me yet. Hence the undampened love lol.

I've read the i5 is a really nice DAP. How are you finding the sound quality?

Hey esm87!

Sorry for my late reply, I was traveling and wasn´t able to answer your post, and yes you are right, sometimes I differ with some people impressions about the gear I use and I understand there´s a lot of factors influencing an impression. But when I have read lots of reviews on head fi, Headphonics and so on about the Chord Mojo, it´s easy to come into a conclusion; it must sound great! The Mojo has a great value in the audiophile world.

Now, I ended up buying the Cayin i5, and so far it has been a great DAP, totally worth the money. Regarding the sound quality, I´ve been using it with my AAW A3H Pro and it has delivered a warm and full musical presentation across the spectrum, with very good resolution and detail. The lows are deep and very well controlled providing you a great body, the midrange is very neutral with plenty of details and very good instrument separation. Highs are very particular due to its relaxed presentation, but they have a very good resolution and extension, never harsh or sibilant. I wouldn’t say the highs are recessed, but sometimes I´d like a little more sparkle and attack in the treble region IMHO. Staging and imaging is excellent providing you a deep and wider presentation. You should definitely give it a try, I would be a happy reader if you could give us a comparison between the i5 and the mojo if you can.

I think the PM4 will pair very well with the Cayin i5, I´m sure I´ll be providing you some impressions about this combo! (If the PM4 ever arrive)

I dont have access to the i5 bro. My listening has changed a fair bit recently also, I mainly stream Tidal hifi for my tunes now. Actually considering selling the mojo and trying something different. My cayin c5 with hifimediy android dac sounds great, nice and resolving, far cheaper alternative to a new mojo. The c5 and dac combo hit harder than mojo but mojo will sound better. That's not to say the soundquality of c5 and dac sound subpar noooooo.

Some people say the c5 and pm4 dont jam too well but I dont use it without that little dac. The mojo is more resolving and dynamically impressive maybe but the c5 combo goes harder, its what you appreciate I suppose.

I ordered the sony ex800st earlier which I will mod to create the hulk of basshead IEM's. I will look forward to how the pm4 compares as it goes hard with lovely clear vocals and upper end for me with a nice big soundstage! The pm4 are awesome!

I'm also very interested in people's opinions on running the pm4 balanced.

sososerious is planning on trying this and he very kindly said that he would report his findings in a few days (using a Trinity cable that he will modify).

I have used the Westone adventure beta iems balanced (using the Trinity Pono cable) and they sound dramatically improved versus single ended (in balanced they are less bassy, clearer, more spacious and detailed, overall much more refined with a very obvious difference- driving them Pono balanced vs Pono single ended).

I'll have to make/adapt a cable to try the pm4s balanced - so I'm eager to hear whether sososerious finds much of an improvement.

The pm4s are very nice sounding iems - so it would be amazing if they were even better balanced!

Part of the improvement of balanced play back is in the DAP. Balanced operation reduces power supply noise. Less noise and hum means cleaner, clearer sound. This is very important with IEMs due to their very high efficiency. They are like a microscope exposing every little scrap of noise. Even batteries are noisy.

I bought the Trinity Pono balanced cable for my Atlas. Once I heard the balanced setup, I never went back to single ended. Recently modified my VE Monk+ buds to play balanced.

Balanced play doesn't always improve the sound. It raises output impedance. If the earphones are low impedance the frequency response can deviate more than in standard mode.
