OK,

I am very impressed with the sound of my cmoy amp. The only surprising thing is that I used my portable cdp to set the gain by swapping resistors for the best match and now...

....I plugged it into my home cdp and the gain is way too much - yikes!

As strange as it sounds, my sb live souncard sounds the best with this combo, followed by my portable cdp and a distant third is my home cdp.

What have I done?????

Hello,

Many devices have different output levels. Some small some big. Your home CDP has larger output level than portable CDP. The same goes for sound card. This is not critical ... Don't worry you have done nothing bad.

Is there a best way to attenuate the input from the home cdp to the amplifier? I would rather do that than make another amp with a different "gain" resistor. I can put the volume pot pretty high with the sound card and the portable CDP. I can't turn the home cdp up to 10 o'clock.

Just thinking of ways of protecting my ears, I choose not to listen at high levels.

Are you connecting to the headphone jack of your home CDP or
the line out?

Line level should be the same regardless of the source, right?
(just kill me if I'm wrong, you masters of DIY

Just use an 2-RCA to mini IC and connect to the line-out of
your home CDP
