Did receive the tool from both a member here as well as from iFi support.
I am going to "operate" on my friend's ZS, next week.

Thanks
Glad to hear that, it's a fairly straightforward process, good luck!

Cheers!!

I read the first 54 pages of this forum and did a few rudimentary search's. Rather than take a few more days to finish reading I will ask my questions here, thanks in advance

I currently have an Allo USBridge Sig feeding a BiFrost 2/64 with Moode Audio installed. I have over 280,000 tracks of flac (17TB) on a Synology NAS and growing every week (OCD collector of live music and ripping 1000s of CDs purchased over the years). This is a desktop setup and i access Moode via a web browser, no need for phone access as I use USB Audio Player to other locations such as the Man Cave with a bluetooth enabled DAC, No interest in Tidal, Qobuz, etc;

The number of files is starting to cause issues with MPD, my Allo red lights for 10 to 20 minutes on reboot and sometimes for a few minutes if I click thru folders quickly, it appears i have reached the upper limits of what can be handled

I am ready to purchase a Zen Streamer depending on the answers here

1 - Can The Zen Streamer play from a network connected NAS?

2 - Does size matter? Will the underlying software choke at the number of tracks?

3 - What app from the desktop plays the music, is it the Volumio clone?

Thanks in advance, ready to pull the trigger and can repurpose the Allo at work

The short answer is yes, the ZEN Stream can play from a NAS.

I do not think we had anyone post with a library as large as yours, although folks may correct me here.

I know that using attached storage some folks have reported issues with large libraries, but not with NAS to my knowledge.

The app that plays the music is used for settings as well, it's called Stream-iFi and is very similar to Volumio, as that's what it was based on.

Best I have for you there, good luck and let us know how this works out for you. Remember to buy from an authorized retailer in case it's not for you and this will facilitate an easy return process.

Cheers!!

When playing a hirez track '24bit 192khz flac' from Tidal via Roon, the right indication light on my ZS is WHITE (highrez) . But when playing the same Tidal track via Tidal connect (initiated via my android phone), the right indication light on my ZS is BLUE (mqa studio). Tidal app on my phone indicates 'max/mqa'. If I am playing the same track directly on my phone's Tidal app the quality is 'max/24bit 192khz flac'

Please advice.

Roon has already received the "Tidal Max" update so MQA no Longer appears via Roon (Some albums still do)

We are currently in the process of doing the work on our end to update our system to accommodate the switch from Tidal MQA to Tidal Max.

Everything you are seeing at the moment is correct.

Cheers!!

Thank you for the prompt response, headed out on a trip, will order next week so that it is here when i return. My NAS is backed up twice onto 5 4TB drives and 4 6TB drives. I could always insert one of those drives as attached storage if needed

Does Stream-iFi build a music database or is is like FooBar where you just navigate to the folder you want to play?

I can ask specifically how that works for you, but if it helps "Attached storage" must be read every time the ZS is powered on so "large" libraries may take more time when attached directly vs. NAS

Cheers!!
