I just got these yesterday. Now I realize how bad the jan/phillips are. Much clearer more extended highs, more extended bass... However the sovteks mids are less enjoyable. Not as full and liquidy as jan/phillips however still very good. For 20 or so dollars per pair I think they are a nice upgrade. The mids may open up with a few days of break-in we shall see...

I read in a couple of places that Sovteks have midrange problems. I'm keen on trying JJ tubes. These are current production tubes made in a renovated Tesla plant in Slovakia.
JJ tubes (particularly their 300B) have received rave reviews.

the jj' are even cheaper than the sovteks where I ordered from. I should go back and put an order in for them as well... Maybe order 2 sets.
