Frankly as have magni+ and Valhalla 2 (also with 4 tubes) think I am pretty sorted. Not keen on getting more expensive dac. Think I have reached the end of my investing in hi-fi gear for a few years. Now iff only Tidal would work on pc. Still crashing and hanging.

Ummmm... The Shangri-La was always $50,000, ever since its release in 2017. And that price is for the system. The headphones can be purchased alone for $18K MSRP, and supposedly $14K street price. The $8000 one is the Shangri-La Jr system (headphone plus amp). The prices of both haven't changed at all.

tbh, I've always been curious about what kind of sound you'd get if plugging the x9000 to the Shangri-La

Well the Shangri-la is still just a four-tubes amp, with the headphones! Wondering how much better they are than say a proper DAC and Valhalla 2 with also 4 tubes? Doubt mere mortals can hear the difference! Those prices seem to me to be mere hysteria. I can barely hear the difference between magni/modi and Valhalla 2 as it is. Maybe my ears are just stuffed with earwax, don't know.
