Looks like you have the OG leather pads as well. Sasha changed the pads to flatter ones which increase the impact and detail cause the drivers a bit closer to your ears. Try to push the headphones towards your ears just a bit and see if you like em that way, I personally liked them and started...

I found a cheap (€50) Black Cube linear USB and just installed it, not using the DAC. Sounds a bit softer (tonal wise) then the ADI-2 DAC fs. RME goes deeper and is sharper, but the softer Lehmann offers a smooth listening and I like the combination with my DT 1990 a lot.

I have the velour pads next to the stock pads. Velour pads are softer, less V-shaped. So you'll give in on bass and treble energy. Personally I stick with the leather pads.

the 700 have slightly different pads compared to the 900, those on the 700 are even softer and isolate better. If you love the 900 sig my advise would be to get the 700. Compared to the 770 pro x the 700 is more neutral and suffers less from the 8khz peak.

I have tried UM Mest mk2's with my M9 and it has a lower noise floor than a Violectric V280.

I'll measure them as well on my minidsp HEARS, just for reference and compare them to the DT 770 pro 80ohm, DT 700 pro X and perhaps some open beyers like the DT 1990. Now I just need to find the time and space :)

I sniped a 2nd handed dt1990 in great condition. Only swapped to the amiron wireless dust protector and using the balanced pads. Excellent value for what you pay nowadays. The build quality is outstanding, same for comfort and overall sound quality. You can turn it into a treble monster in order...
