Cayin RU7: 1-Bit Resistor Network Dongle DAC /Amp
I use it as a line out from my work laptop to my desktop speakers and while that 1v from the RU7 means that the output is lower than, say, the balanced XLR from the same preamp, it sounds clean and quiet even when turned up past 12 on the volume dial.- PopZeus

The discovery thread!
Ooh FD15 looks interesting. I hope they keep the treble in check with a more vocal heavy response. Insufficient bass with mids-forward and spicy treble could make the whole tuning sound tilted towards the upper end. But a bass response on the level of the FD7 would work for me. Speaking of FiiO...- PopZeus

Help me find the perfect sub-$150 dynamic driver IEM
Fwiw, I EQ the Delci to clean up the mids to treble transition so it loses the muffle. It doesn't require much to get it sounding fairly natural. Really enjoy it once it's fixed because the treble is already pretty clean and extended for a 1DD before any tinkering. I think I like the Delci more...- PopZeus

Audeze MM-100
Look I don't wanna get too far off topic but if you're looking for best-in-class soundstage, you're not going to find it with the MM-100 or LCD2. Headphones like that tend to have built a strong reputation for their soundstage size like the HD800. You really should be searching the...- PopZeus

Audeze MM-100
I dunno how good desktop DAC/amp combos have gotten these days, esp since I kinda became a separate component snob a few years ago. That AKM4499/4191 chip sounds interesting. If I was to get a desktop combo, I'd want it to use some type of ladder DAC or that chip. Or a tube combo, if that's your...- PopZeus

Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
Thanks for reiterating that. I wasn’t expecting it to sound like the 560, but seeing folks who like the 560 say they also like the 620 was causing some trepidation on my part. I look forward to hearing more impressions from like-minded folks.- PopZeus

Meze Audio 109 Pro
Also a fan of Fog City Audio. Just bought a cable from them this week. Great Mogami wire and awesome custom colors for under $100 (depending on amount of wire used).- PopZeus

Audeze MM-100
I don’t have a ton of experience with a variety of planars but this is one of the easiest to drive that I’ve ever heard. Usually there’s a looseness and lack of dynamics when a planar driver isn't getting enough juice (current?) but the MM-100 still has plenty of detail and sound pressure from...- PopZeus

Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
Looking forward to hearing more folks’ thoughts on the 620. I’m intrigued but hesitant based on my negative experience with the 560. A 600 with bass might be a really sweet spot for me, provided the treble is well controlled.- PopZeus

Schiit Mjolnir 3 - Impressions Thread
It’s not the same thing but fwiw, I did not enjoy the Mjolnir pairing with the Empyrean. Eventually I sold the Empy because the FR was just not what I was looking for.- PopZeus

Schiit Mjolnir 3 - Impressions Thread
See, that's the thing...my guess is if someone who's running the Pontus into the Mjolnir is complaining about sibilance, it's either the music or the headphone that is causing it to be an audible problem. I know what I'd choose to swap out in this case. I suppose swapping out the amp for...- PopZeus

Schiit Mjolnir 3 - Impressions Thread
I feel like if you’re experiencing sibilance at this level, it’s not your amp that’s causing it. I mean, just EQ it out?- PopZeus

Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread
Never said that anyone “has a corner”. Just that here in the states it’s a cultural signifier to assert one’s privilege. Others elsewhere assert their privilege for the same or different reasons.- PopZeus

Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread
Not really. Rude, inconsiderate behavior in public has only gotten worse since the pandemic. And some folks in the US seem to take cultural pride in being jerks or just not caring/thinking about others.- PopZeus

Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread
Wearing open back headphones on a crowded plane is really inconsiderate. I would’ve been really annoyed, especially if I didn’t have closed back, noise cancelling headphones. Which I have partially because others are so, well…- PopZeus

Meze Audio 109 Pro
The 105 looks interesting. I eventually sold my 109s because I found them to be too bright and a bit too withdrawn in the mids for my taste. If this can at least get the treble balance right, I’ll consider getting a pair.- PopZeus

Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
Ah how interesting! I stand corrected. Now I need to hear this thing for myself. I was not impressed with the 560 but love the S2, so I’m trying to approach this new model with an appropriate amount of caution.- PopZeus

Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
The S2’s FR graph doesn’t really do a good job of communicating the bass response. So my guess is the 620S’ bass is probably stronger than the S2, but not by as much as the graph would suggest.- PopZeus

Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
Thanks for posting this link. I like that they call out a lot of things you might not get from some reviewers but would impact different types of customers. Particularly it seems to be a fairly efficient and sensitive headphone for 150 ohms, which is great to see.- PopZeus
