Does it make sense to be an audio purist?

Its the first sentence of op. Defining your personal form of purity is the point of the discussion. Any answer you give could be argued as impure by someone else if they wanted.

Pick a headphone off my rack ...

From this list Ive only heard DT880 600ohm and PX100. I enjoyed owning the latter so that would be my choice. The others from your list could be sour lemons to me for all I know. https://www.allmusic.com/artist/dope-lemon-mn0003490717#discography

Does it make sense to be an audio purist?

Personally, I am a purist because I buy the headphones with their sound signature then I adjust them accordingly.

Fostex T50RP Incremental Mods and Measurements

Its a game of preferred compromises. No headphone or loudspeaker can do it all the best. T50RP are luckily cheap, so if you do remove stock damping paper and dont like results after applying alternate acoustic impedance damping, then just buy another to start again and use old headphone as...

Fostex T50RP Incremental Mods and Measurements

I have same issues with headphones as you described. Besides a peaky frequency response, another source of fatigue for me is trapped air pressure. If you are sealing tight the front-side of the driver which it seems you are then you may suffer fatigue from that as well. I very highly recommend...

Fostex T50RP Incremental Mods and Measurements

Leave the felt over the cup vents for now as it likely adds little resistance anyway… but more on this topic later if necessary. Removing the driver rear paper will lower treble and more. Will be like starting from scratch again because the effect is strong. Depending on your preferences, you...

Fostex T50RP Incremental Mods and Measurements

Ive seen others do including myself. Some diy modders even transplant to wooden cups, see: “Thunderpants”. You shouldve applied each mod one at a time then tested and noted the differences, then you can decide which variables to add or subtract to reach desired result. From your pic shared...

    Orthodynamic Roundup

This is why I find Moondrop Para’s self-description interesting. However, from other’s impressions I get the impression they are bass-lite. I wonder why. I want a TH900 now. Immanis looks next-level but way out of my budget. Ill wait until they’re vintage. :) Some claim Monoprice AMT uses...

    Orthodynamic Roundup

PMB 100 is deceptively comfortable for a helmetspeaker. I suspect that the original foam covers that have disintegrated over time (can see original look on box cover) may have been integral to the intended sound and comfort. Just the 2mm foam I applied improved comfort and bass quantity...

    Orthodynamic Roundup

PMB 100 The foam pads from Grado are too thick and causes discomfort because stock “pads” no longer rest against face to relieve pressure from ears. Sounds pretty good though and hope that after am done padrolling can compare to Grado SR325x and Yamaha YHD-1. So Im trying to make some pads...

I use 325x simply as a portable headphone that saves me from having to worry about damaging PS500e. PS500e is for desktop use only.

325x sounds very different because different pads, L vs F. If I recally correctly, you have the Hemp so I imagine 325x is like that for the most part.

Thanks. I cant deal with the apparent Stax “fart”. Supposedly its a common issue but I have to lower the price since the problem exists on this unit. When rotating your head to look around its activated momentarily. I think Im just extra sensitive to this annoyance because I listen to music at...

    ETA Ada: Grado's competitor

Quite similar. Major differences noted: - Ada too mid-centric. - 325x very slightly mid-centric, tolerable but would prefer a lil less 2-3kHz. - Ada bass roll off… however 325x is neither a bass god in terms of quality x quantity, but 325x is more acceptable for a wider range of music. -...
