I have the ER4SR (2016) (and ER4S [2004]), but you have captured my experience perfectly! The ER4SR are a bit easier to drive than the ER4S. I purchased a custom balanced cable and couldn't be happier. Enjoy! Cheers... Brian

For over 15 years I have used the triple-flange tips on ER4S and ER4SR. I have never been bothered by the fit or comfort (one of the lucky ones) and still consider these the reference standard for my IEM listening. Cheers... Brian

I had a similar issue with a few BT earphones. Then I figured out that the volume control on the earphone was working independently of the M9. I bumped the earphone volume to its max (while on a very low volume on M9) and then adjusted the volume on M9 to get the desired output volume. It may...

ER4P is the same as ER4S except for the nominal in-line impedance. ER4P has a nominal impedance of 27 Ohm while the ER4S has 100 Ohm. You can get the Etymotic ER38-24 adapter to bring the ER4P up to 100 Ohm. I believe that the ER4PT model included the adapter. (see here) Cheers... Brian

If it's not the cable/MMCX connection, then it may be that the end of the ear tip is being blocked at a curve in his ear canal. I suggest deeper insertion of another type of tip. Cheers... Brian

I had no problems with the X5ii, it worked fine. I used the X5ii and M9 (tour unit) side-by-side for about a week. The only advantages that the M9 had for me were 1) the M9 had no problems reading microSD cards formatted on another device (not a big deal, but a difference), and 2) the better...

I use ER4SR for classical music regularly and they are great. I normally use a DAP, but they work fine with my old Samsung S4. I suspect that the V40 is an improvement. The ER4XR might give the cannons in Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture a bit of a lift, but otherwise the 4SR are fine (IMHO)...
