Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion
But my point was we don’t even know who and where those repairs were conducted. Was it B&W in Worthing or a third party?- garethr

Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion
I’d be intrigued by those who’ve had issues whether they’ve dealt with B&W direct in Worthing UK, B&W in the US or a third party store or retailer as I get the clear impression that the service received differs depending on where that service was. Especially when people start talking about...- garethr

Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion
There was definitely a blip around the formation products but it also related to the acquisition and then the sounds united era. I think it’s also been fairly public knowledge that Massimo has been struggling cash wise too, but B&W themselves seem to be doing okay now they returned to their core...- garethr

Whilst it’s all anecdotal, so are any claims of a high failure rate. The percentage of the customer base who are here on these forums complaining probably doesn’t even register percentage wise overall. Amazon reviews are generally good (and B&W aren’t likely to be paying for them) and there’s...- garethr

Absolutely. In fact this is exactly what B&O has been doing for some time with seasonal/special edition/collabs with their products. Especially the H95. They view them more as a fashion accessory than a piece of high end audio gear. Even Beats used to do this with the Studio line. I’d say it...- garethr

Focal Bathys Hi-Fi Bluetooth & ANC Headphones: Early Impressions
Objectively no difference with an in-spec cable. With the newer UAC3 standard there will be zero difference because of the enhanced error correction. https://forum.headphones.com/t/mis-understanding-usb-audio/6719 https://www.soundguys.com/usb-audio-explained-18563/- garethr

True, but that’s just not the Apple way. User choice isn’t a thing when they know best :smirk:- garethr

Exactly. And a large part of the rationale behind no EQ is Apple’s ‘it just works’ ethos. Users shouldn’t have to mess around with EQ settings themselves when you can attain the (admittedly subjective) best sound possible by default through their computational audio. It’s no different to the...- garethr

Sony WF-1000XM5
Not so much the bitrate but the complexity of the codec. It’s not very efficient and is computationally expensive to encode/decode.- garethr

It’s not going to be Sony’s top end ANC solution as found in the XM5, it’s their lower range ANC chipset they resell. They keep the high end stuff for themselves. There’s a fair few manufacturers using Sony’s ANC (I believe the ML5909 and MW75 do too) over the usual Qualcomm SoC- garethr

Mark Levinson № 5909 headphone
As far as I was aware they don’t license their ToTL chipset but only their mid range ANC and BT implementation as used on their lower end ANC headphones. It’s probably cheaper to license than the Qualcomm equivalent which almost everyone else uses. Other than Apple and possibly Bose, nobody...- garethr

Focal Bathys - Wireless ANC Over-Ear Headphone
Yeah, for sure there is a difference in terms of longevity and potentially better throughput (frankly USB-C is a complete mess of different standards and cable specifications), but in terms of audible differences, absolutely not. What irks is that most of these 'hifi' cable companies are using...- garethr

Focal Bathys - Wireless ANC Over-Ear Headphone
So, you do realise that USB-C signal transmission is a digital only signal, so objectively any cable is as good as the next? 🤦♂️ I'm amazed folk still buy into this snake oil. I have a friend who is in the cable industry - albeit not specifically audio - and he's continually amused by the...- garethr

Masters & Dynamics MW75 New Headphones
Received an email from Master & Dynamic today with a 30% off everything 'early access' discount code to their Friends & Family sale which goes public tomorrow. Makes trying the MW75 again very appealing at £384 EDIT: Code doesn't appear to apply to Bugatti edition. Shame because the...- garethr

Yes, at least B&W are keeping it classy. It interesting though how for years Bang & Olufsen were often mocked for their collabs and seasonal colour ways, and now it seems to be the done thing I even got an email today from M&W about their new Bugatti collab too!- garethr
