Review of the Analog Squared Paper TU-05 transportable Tube amp.. I thought is was time to do a more comprehensive review of this amp as I have now 7 weeks and around 250 hours use of the amp under my belt. This review will be based upon using non standard tubes. There is nothing wrong with the sound of the stock tubes it comes with. If I had not heard another tube I would have been happy with the sound of the Tung Sol/ Sylvania combination that Shikata San provides with the amp. However they are I have found somewhat microphonic and even with...
  2. Cypher Labs Algorhythm Solo

I have been listening now for a number of hours to the Solo and thought I would pen a few words on it.   It is quite the brick! Larger by a small margin than the iPod classic and much bigger than my Stepdance it feels substantial, the case work is very well done, very professional, it feels like it is built to last and take the knocks of portable use. The three supplied straps are perfect to stack the whole lot together, one being longer so as to reach around the whole pile and keep things nice and stable! I know I shall get the higher quality...
  3. Stax SR001 MK2

This is my first foray into the electrostatic world and won't be my last. Everything that has been written in the past about Stax is borne true in listening to these phones. Liquid mid's, shimmering treble and a suprising amount of deep, strong bass.   Even though described as portable I would not go outside with these. They are my in the house set up as they offer little or no isolation from external noise.   Overal if you are looking for headphones that sound musical and involving you would do yourself a favour by giving these a go!  ...
  4. Sennheiser IE 8 In-Ear Headphones

I find these wonderful little Sennheisers to be a very natural sounding headphone. They take a while to burn in but once that is done they are the sort of headphones that one puts on and forgets the equipment and just enjoys the music. Very similar to my Stax headphones in sound I feel.   Well worth it I think and though as per normal with forums, once a year old it is almost forgotten it is still worthy of comparison to the best out there! These are my go to phones now!
