I hope to have time to write something up by Tuesday.  The short answer is I have spent hours listening since Friday with a smile on my face.  My wife tried the 800's last night and said - well, you can never go back to the 600's....  Nice.

I listened to the 800's last night using my Magni 2 / Modi stack.  I definitely moved to the next level over my 600's.  I noticed the treble was a little harsh.  Today my Lyr 2 came in and going to a tube amp smoothed out the brightness a bit - a real plus.  I'm saving the link you sent -...

khatch, Awesome info!  I really appreciate it.  I ordered the HD800's and a Lyr 2.  I just got the headphones last night and the Lyr 2 should arrive today.  Schiit has a 15 day return policy.  I also found out that I can demo the Lehmann Black Cube Linear at a store about 20 miles from my home...

Currently own HD 600 and Magni 2, Modi 2 stack.  I just moved to HD 800 Lyr2 and keeping my Modi 2 for now.  I should be getting them Thursday or Friday.   What do you think I'll notice with this move?

I currently have the HD 600 with the Magni 2 and have no complaints.  I do want a bigger soundstage and more detail so I'm thinking of buying the HD 800.  Does the Magni 2 have enough to pull the potential out of the HD 800?

Back in January I bought Sennheiser HD 600 cans and Schiit Magni 2 amp and Modi 2 DAC.  I find myself listening to music 3 or 4 nights a week for at least an hour.  I love the experience I'm having...  Now I'm becoming a little more discerning.  I'd like a bigger soundstage and a bit more detail...

Okay, after reading reviews on the Modi 2/Magni 2 combo I made the purchase today.  Thanks so much for setting me straight and saving me money.  I'll report back on my impressions of this combo once I've had time to listen.

Thanks for all the great responses.  I have the Fiio E12 as a portable amp.  Will I noticed a big difference going with a Modi 2/Magni 2 combo?

Billy, I still have time to return the HD600's.  I hesitate to do it because I do like them.  Do you have a more expensive headphone in mind that sound like the 600's with the a bit more bass - keeping it really tight though, especially sub bass and a bigger soundstage with loads of detail?
