RAAL 1995 headphones, Magna and Immanis
I confirm. The Immanis handles transients in a lightning fast, effortless mode, like nothing else I have experienced except for the Aperio and the SR1. How much you may want to leverage on this capability - and more generally on the utter purity of the I. - is up to the rest of your system, and...- simorag

RAAL 1995 headphones, Magna and Immanis
I had the X9000 and Immanis for a couple of weeks, I provided some brief comparative notes here. The X9000 was driven by the SRM-700S, and I am aware that there are significantly better options. However, the other time I tried the X9000 recently was with a Viva STX and my overall grasp of the...- simorag

RAAL 1995 headphones, Magna and Immanis
The Immanis leak significantly more sound than all other headphones I had. Much more than the Valkyria and the AB-1266, to name the latest ones I owned. As for suspension of disbelief induced by spatial cues. The Immanis may be 90% of a SR1b with wide open earpieces (say 30° or more). The last...- simorag

RAAL 1995 headphones, Magna and Immanis
Weight is more about static properties, density of tone. Bass effects in electronica, massed double bass passages from big orchestral forces are examples of this. Slam involves mainly transient response, and the ability to convey a high amount of bass energy (moving a lot of air) in a small...- simorag

RAAL 1995 headphones, Magna and Immanis
The Immanis bass is deep, clean, articulate and tight. It extends down to the bottom octave nicely, and with the help of some EQ - which these headphones accept extremely well - it can be brought to downright bass-head skull-rattling territory. Double bass, electric bass, percussions have a...- simorag

Spirit Torino Valkyria
Most of my collection is 16/44, and being an avid user of streaming services the majority of my listeing is with PCM material. That said, I have several DSD albums as well, and I especially like HDDT remasters https://www.highdeftapetransfers.ca/. This album below (HDTT DSD256) is one of the...- simorag

RAAL 1995 headphones, Magna and Immanis
I was a little bit concerned that the Immanis would be very good 'only' at the genres where my Valkyria are already great, like classical and jazz, with the addition of electronica where the 3-ribbon immediately showed up their talents as well (crazy detail, 3D effects, bass quantity and...- simorag

Spirit Torino Valkyria
Thank you! The Horizon has been the single piece of electronics with the most striking impact on the sound of my system along my audiophile journey to date. It went beyond what I expected - and my expectations were quite high. The most apparent trait of this DAC is how full, organic and...- simorag

Spirit Torino Valkyria
Just started revisiting the Valkyria after the arrival of the Horizon. Or, rediscovering them again? Their raw and visceral take, their forceful portrayal of the Masculine in music are now conveyed with a novel sense of continuous flow. Almost a touch of romance I have yet to decide whether...- simorag

Thanks! These DACs are musical instruments, really. Some tube rolling will be unavoidable in the future (temptation is too strong, although the H. sounds so marvelous already), but I hope I will not make it an addiction ;-)- simorag

Thanks! It sounds nice, it sings to the heart ;-) The electronics on top shelf is a tube DAC, the Horizon from Lampizator (Poland). The amp sits on 2nd tier, it's a AIC-10, a hybrid design from Riviera (Italy). And a quick update shot after some fine tuning on the DAC (Omicron isolation...- simorag

DAC changes potentially have a way broader and more audible effect than rolling the AIC-10 tube. Changing the Riviera tube is very noticeable as well, but not as transformative. Still, it allows a degree of freedom for optimization of the synergy, very welcome and easy when one owns multiple cans.- simorag

RAAL 1995 headphones, Magna and Immanis
So the partnership between the Immanis and the Horizon DAC turned to be - in my system - all I hoped for, and more, to the point that I feel a whole new stage of my audio journey has unfolded. Due to this, I find it sensible to expand my feedback so far by putting into perspective how the...- simorag
