Flattest, Most Neutral IEMs For Recording, Mixing, and Mastering

Thanks.  By "smooth," I'm assuming you mean relative lack of peaks and dips in the treble.  By treble, I'm guessing you mean anything above around 4K?

Flattest, Most Neutral IEMs For Recording, Mixing, and Mastering

Layla sounds promising but wonder how Angie would compare? Also, UERM seems like it could fair well, too, and is way less than Layla! However, the option to alter frequency balance would be a boon. What type of control does the Layla offer? Just bass? I have the ER4S, but they've broken too...

Flattest, Most Neutral IEMs For Recording, Mixing, and Mastering

I currently own the JH13, but after using them more for this purpose, I'm finding that they're hyped a little in one way or another and wondering if their are IEMs out there that are truer to the source, which is important in my work.  I have a one-room studio and am constantly micing...

Mytek Stereo 192 DSD DAC/Preamp/Amplifier Thread

Right now I use it to select and position mics while the musicians play the instruments, as well as post editing routines. I haven't been mixing lately but when that happens I'll look into a better amp. Of course, I use nearfields as well. Also, I prefer the Headtap and my Adcom GFA 535 to any...

Mytek Stereo 192 DSD DAC/Preamp/Amplifier Thread

Thanks for the review. Again, the mod does make a big difference with low impedance IEMs, but I know your review didn't focus on the headphone outputs. Your descriptions sound a lot like how the Lavry DA11's output is to the Mytek, the Lavry sounding warmer and more forgiving (headphone output...

Mytek Stereo 192 DSD DAC/Preamp/Amplifier Thread

Yeah, I've noticed the residual noise floor using the JH13s, which bothers me when the source is not loud enough to mask the noise. Have you connected your JH16s directly to the XLR outputs via an adaptor?

Mytek Stereo 192 DSD DAC/Preamp/Amplifier Thread

I'm guessing the Roxannes will be an even bigger change since they're only 15 ohms.

Mytek Stereo 192 DSD DAC/Preamp/Amplifier Thread

Just did a temporary mod of shorting the two resistors in question and the difference is very noticeable (fuller, more detailed bass and less "restrained" sounding) using my JH13s. And I'm one of those firm disbelievers of much of the audiophile snake oil that plagues the Internet. From...

    Jecklin or Schneider Disc?

Quote: Why not use any disc for drum overheads?    Typically in rock/pop recordings, most engineers that record this genre will place the drum kit over a large width of the stereo field, if not the entire stereo field.  Yes, it's a false representation, but it has worked in many famous...

Please recommend headphone perfect for serious monitoring/mixing

Considering your current monitoring setup, I wouldn't skimp on headphones/IEMs at all and would recommend following a price-no-object mentality if at all possible. Time is valuable and it's advantageous knowing you don't have to check your mixes constantly on other playback systems for possible...

Looking for flat reference phones for mixing

Is the room you mix in adjacent to other rooms where you can place the computer(s) against the common wall? If so, cut a hole large enough to run all the computer wires through (preferably square so you can repair easily later if need be) and move the computer to the other room (you'll need...

    Nuforce uDac vs Lavry DA11

Yeah, I know what you're thinking: Not a fair comparison! After all, the DA11 is ~14X the price. I have the DA11 but needed a very small USB-powered amp for the road as an alternative to my M15X's awful, awful headphone output. Despite the huge price difference, I was hoping the sound...

JH13+Lavry DA10+Genelec 8020. Help to solve the puzzle!.

    Current most neutral/accurate IEM?

I own the ER4S and the JH13, the latter of which I consider a MUCH more accurate IEM, not to mention all the other areas the JH13 excels in.
