I agree that 6F8G is very hard to match up by a 6SN7. 6C8G is not as good as 6F8G, but it also beat most of my 6SN7s.- wwmhf

I also used U12 which worked without issues for me. I sold my U12s and I have been using U16s for some time now.- wwmhf

I also found a good USB does help U16. I notice that the Monolith USB Digital Audio Cable - USB A to USB B (sold on amazon and other place) works noticeably better than generic USB cables.- wwmhf

Yes, we can just glue the glass to the base. I did it twice. Even I do not remember what kind of glue I used, both tubes hold up well so far. I used the one suggested on the internet.- wwmhf
