NuPrime HPA-9 ™ new headphone amplifier
The NuPrime HPA-9 preamp and headphone amp is in a different league than NuForce Icon HDP. HDP uses high quality opamp and other passive parts. HPA-9 uses custom designed transistor logic and exotic parts: http://nuprimeaudio.com/product/hpa-9/ Search for Single-Ended Class A design, and other...- jasonl

[Review] Encore mDSD (dac/amp) - a new pocket rocket to make you hum
Encore mDSD can output 24bit/192kHz to optical for PCM and DoP64 (DSD64 over PCM). It can decode 32bit/384kHz for digital to analog output. The digital output is limited by what optical can transmit.- jasonl

Buy both to compare, at least Sonic Unity would let you return for a full refund. By the way, preamp/volume control affects the performance of headphone amp a lot.- jasonl

Celsus Sound Companion One, 32/384 USB, iOS/Android, 24/192 Wi-Fi DAC/Amplifier
We discontinue this model because everyone now ask for WiFi audio that works with online streaming services. As a headphone amp and DAC, Companion One is exceptionally good. We have some stocks where the leather pouch got mold and the Companion One ended up smelling bad. May be we will sell...- jasonl

NuPrime HPA-9 ™ new headphone amplifier
There are reviews by customers and online websites. But if you are referring to magazines such as Stereophile, The Absolute Sound etc, then you have to understand the reality of advertising. You indirectly pay for the advertising (and review) of very expensive products. HPA-9 cost $649 and with...- jasonl

[review] NuPrime uDSD
I recall that the problem facing Sehn82 was corrupted DSD file. In some cases, the older foobar works for some people. https://www.dropbox.com/s/2u0vbbudd3y3if9/foobar.rar?dl=0 The folder contents 0.6.5 version and works fine for us. So far we have not discovered problem with the uDSD...- jasonl

NuPrime HPA-9 ™ new headphone amplifier
Why would you be skeptical :) ? The parts and circuit design we explained are just facts, it is not like some marketing statement with fuzzy terminology. We took a high end design and just implemented it and sell it at DIY price. As a result of this approach, we don't do much marketing. Users...- jasonl

NuPrime HPA-9 ™ new headphone amplifier
HPA-8 uses transistors in Class A design. The goal of a preamp is not to add sonic characteristic to the sound, and perform with low distortion regardless of volume. In the past, the design technique and parts that we used are typically found in very expensive preamp costing thousands of $. ...- jasonl

NuPrime HPA-9 ™ new headphone amplifier
It is a very high end preamp. It uses switched resistor network circuit (implemented in FPGA) for its preamp. For other technical details, please refer to the product page. You can use HPA-9 with STA-9 for bi-amping or tri-amping. With two sets of RCA outputs, you could configure two STA-9 in...- jasonl

Some US dealers (Audio Advisors, sonicunity.com and perhaps others) allow you to return the product within 30 days for a full refund. If you return the item in like new condition (this is easy to do, just don't trash the item, accessory or packaging box), you get a full refund. As far as I...- jasonl

No, there is no mDSD version 2. We just sold almost 1K units and now making more. This is our philosophy for portable device listening: 1. If you want to listen to high-res music with the best sound for hours every day, use a dedicated player (NuPrime coming out with a portable multi-zone...- jasonl

[Review] Encore mDSD (dac/amp) - a new pocket rocket to make you hum
All the hoopla started when I responded to someone about the power consumption for mDSD when I read some Apple supported related post that iPhone can only allow for 20mA draw from external devices. But that was incorrect. Some people might be thinking that I am avoiding or intentionally keeping...- jasonl

If mDSD is so sensible like you say, the Indiegogo project comment section would have been flooded with complains. But do you see any? There are a few people with problems with Windows device driver installation and they eventually solved it (which is not related to mDSD). There is a customer...- jasonl

Thanks for the validation. Our design engineer has been adamant about not posting the output impedance of the HPA-9 due to misunderstanding of how it is being used and also the power rating. Even though it is a compact unit, it has the same amount of capacitor storage as the $7600 a pair...- jasonl

NuPrime HPA-9 ™ new headphone amplifier
If a trade show cost $10,000 (rental, travel, promotion, staff, etc), we have to sell a lot of $649 HPA-9 just to pay for it, we are not even talking about making a profit to fund its R&D and payroll. So we take a different route - try HPA-9 and get a refund if it is not better than anything...- jasonl

Sure, but there is no detectable difference in sound quality between DAC-9 and HPA-9 whether you use RCA or XLR for short distance. XLR is recommended if you have to connect the two devices for a long distance. Perhaps you have DAC-9 connecting to power amp and speakers at one end of the room...- jasonl
