~$1000 to spend on IEMs / on ears. UE18+, SE846, iSine 20 etc. Don't want to make a mistake.,

Hey guys, I appreciate you reading, but I totally get it if you skip this novel. I've been dealing without having any good earbuds for like 5 years and saving up my cash for some Ultimate Ears. I live in Irvine, CA and there's a few dealers here so I can get good service from them without...

    Audio-GD NFB-11.32 & NFB-11 (2014) (Delivery & Impression Thread)!!!

Update on Windows 10:   I installed the latest pre-release fresh and downloaded the Audio GD drivers. The trick was to install them "as administrator" by right clicking the installer, which I didn't have to do in Windows 7. Now, the NFB-11 works better on Windows 10 than it did on Windows 7 or...

    Audio-GD NFB-11.32 & NFB-11 (2014) (Delivery & Impression Thread)!!!

+1. I think an old USB 2.0 hub is best too. Powered or not powered probably won't matter, so I would go with not powered if given a choice for less electrical noise (I hope). I have the same problem with my AudioEngine D1 and it states on their page to use a USB 2.0 hub when all else fails...

    Sony Xperia Z3 Audio Quality

Interesting. I actually found that the bass was a bit understated on sennheiser. I usually kick up the clear bass one notch on the Sony EQ. The Audio-GD NFB-11 does have a larger soundstage than the Z3 though. Usually I am out and in windy conditions when listening to music on my phone, so I...

    Sony Xperia Z3 Audio Quality

There probably won't be a Z4 this year. The Z3+ was just announced and is quite nice. Some minor upgrades like faster cpu, quick charge, water proof USB (no dock), brighter more color accurate screen

    Sony Xperia Z3 Audio Quality

You can, if you just want to see the logo, but the source isn't high res so it won't change anything except maybe file size. I got a few albums from around the net like Soundgarden's Superunknown in DSD. It does sound better on good headphones and spspeakers. Also some artists and studios offer...

    Sony Xperia Z3 Audio Quality

Yes it can play flac, alac, dsd, etc. I sync with JRiver, but the trick was to set the USB mode in mass storage and use an SD card. Alternatively you could use sony's sync software. Edit: List of file formats it plays:Audio playback, supported file formats: 3GPP, MP4, ADTS, AMR, DSF, DSDIFF...

    Audio-GD NFB-11.32 & NFB-11 (2014) (Delivery & Impression Thread)!!!

All of my sleep issues were caused by the "Active Mute" switch on the back. This seems to be designed to prevent popping between tracks, but when used as a regular sound card it causes the effect I described. I turned this feature off with the switch on the back and now it works perfectly...

NFB-11 issues? Or am I using it wrong?

So, all of my problems were related to the Active Mute switch on the back. This was set to "active mute" design. It was actively muting the sound when there was no audio. This was to avoid a popping sound between DSD tracks. The first few seconds of sound would be muted until it came on. Now...

    Audio-GD NFB-11.32 & NFB-11 (2014) (Delivery & Impression Thread)!!!

Just got my NFB-11 with TCXO upgrade and I'm having some strange behavior.    I use Windows 10 and Mac OS X with optical via my onboard sound and USB via a USB 2.0 port.    In both OSes, when I use the device over USB it seems to shut off or go to sleep every time there is no sound. This...

NFB-11 issues? Or am I using it wrong?

Ha!   Well, even on Mac OS X, when I play through USB the DAC seems to click off when there is no sound. Really strange, but the good thing is I can just use the Optical for the system sounds and when I open up JRiver or whatever I can tell it to use the USB device directly. There is no...

    Sony Xperia Z3 Audio Quality

T-Mobile briefly took these off the market, now they are back in about $130 cheaper if you want one.    The Z4 is about to be announced tho, and if you'd rather have the compact (which is actually a better phone IMO) you can get it imported from Clove for about $100...

I don't use one, but it isn't very l I don't use one, but it isn't the loudest for sure. I'm usually at max or 1 less than max volume.

NFB-11 issues? Or am I using it wrong?

I have no idea what happened, but the Audio-gd started showing up in Mac OS X on my Hackintosh. All good at 32-bit 384k. :O Optical as a backup still works fine too.

NFB-11 issues? Or am I using it wrong?

So I started using the Optical output on my computer's sound card for normal day to day computer sound needs and letting JRiver take control of the DAC directly via USB when I want to listen to just music. This avoids all the aforementioned problems. I set the optical to 24-bit / 96khz which is...

NFB-11 issues? Or am I using it wrong?

I guess it could be my speakers turning on and off all the time... I'll plug in some headphones and see if that's the case. It was a common complaint about the Alpha 65s.    But to be clear, they weren't doing this connected straight to the onboard audio.

NFB-11 issues? Or am I using it wrong?

Yes, I was using a USB 3.0 port. It's now on a USB 2.0 port away from the high power charging port. So far so good. I haven't tried bumping windows audio back up to high resolution, but JRiver plays in dedicated mode well and all normal activity sounds great. To be fair, it worked fine on front...

NFB-11 issues? Or am I using it wrong?

So I'm hoping I got this resolved finally.    I plugged the DAC into a front USB instead of a rear and all the popping seems to be gone.    My Motherboard supports high power charging via one of the ports on the back of the motherboard, a feature I use all the time. It looks like the NFB-11...

NFB-11 issues? Or am I using it wrong?

I just bought it and I downloaded the drivers from here: http://www.audio-gd.com/Pro/dac/USB32/USB32EN.htm   I'm going to bed and I'll try optical tomorrow.

    Bleh, I'm now getting popping on 24bit /44.1. :(

NFB-11 issues? Or am I using it wrong?

Ok, so the most compatible I can get this is:   Windows set to 16-bit/96khz. JRiver set to Direct Sound.   Now I've got no popping on regular computer audio and no popping on 16-bit/44.1.    I'm assuming the sound would be identical to optical instead of USB, so I'm probably going to just...

NFB-11 issues? Or am I using it wrong?

So, bumping windows back to to 32-bit 384k and giving JRiver exclusive access, then setting JRiver to use VIA DirectKS and setting the Output format back to 1xDSD native seems to have solved the popping when listening to lower than DSD quality music.    However, these settings make YouTube...

NFB-11 issues? Or am I using it wrong?

The popping seems to be minimized with 32-bit / 96khz in the Windows settings:       I'm OK with this as long as the popping goes away. I'm still pretty confused why on the Mac it won't even stay on.

NFB-11 issues? Or am I using it wrong?

I've tried using it on Windows and Mac and I'm having different issues on both of them.    On Windows 10, I'm noticing some popping when playing CD quality audio files. I'm not sure if this is because of my settings in JRiver or what. It's really distracting. I think I sovled this by going to...

Correct JRiver settings for NFB-11 for DSD 2.8

Took me a while to figure out how to get proper DSD 2.8 playback with my new NFB-11, so I figured I'd just share what I set it to:   This is for JRiver 20.0.93:    Go Tools > Options   Where it says Audio Device, pick VIA DirectKS [ASIO]   Click ... Device Settings ...   Select Volume...
