When you say vertical, do you mean that the sound of objects sound as tall as they should, or that things occupy an expected vertical position in space?- bearcatsandor

Dan Clark Audio EXPANSE Review: Interview, Measurements, Impressions
Thanks folks! I mean I'd rather not spend 8k on headphones if it wouldn't make that much difference. I'll be working with immersive audio, so I was wondering if the expanded staging of the Expanse would be beneficial. However, I'll be using custom HRTF files so the difference may be moot.- bearcatsandor

Dan Clark Audio EXPANSE Review: Interview, Measurements, Impressions
I'll be using the Stealth and/or Expanse for audio work. Obviously I'll need the Stealth for recording with mics. Is there enough of a difference that having the Stealth for recording and the Expanse for mixing and mastering would effect my results? Would just a Stealth be enough? If I only...- bearcatsandor

Dan Clark Audio (DCA) STEALTH and EXPANSE Impressions Thread
I'm about 98% sure that this is an ignorant question, but given that I'm going to be using stealth headphones both for my personal listening and in a studio environment, I assumed that I should not use an Expanse while recording. There is enough bleed from the headphones to be picked up by a...- bearcatsandor

Topping D90se - Can I drive headphones directly with it
Eventually I'm looking to have a Topping D90se + A90 direct + DCA Stealth set up. I can't afford all 3 at once, so I'm getting them piece by piece. If I start with the D90se so that I can finally play some of the DSD files that I have, can I hook that up to my Sony MDR 7506 headphones with...- bearcatsandor

4.4 vs xlr preference
Folks, I'm [hopefully] soon going to pull the trigger on a D90se + A90 descrete + DCA Stealth set up. I can get the amp end of the headphone terminated in a 4.4 or XLR end. They're both balanced and will both sound the same, and I'm not asking about that. I'm going to be using them in a...- bearcatsandor

Dan Clark Audio Stealth Review, Interview, Measurements
The description of the Cayin IHA-6 on headphones.com states that its "Solid chassis with aluminum alloy and sand blast finishing, can eliminate exterior interference effectively." I'm guessing that the texturing of the sand blasting pushes those audiable magnetic fields past the amp. *nods sagely*- bearcatsandor

Thank you both. I'm building up a portable studio for ambisonic/binaural soundscape recording. I'm wondering how robust the Stealths are, and whether they'd stand up to a light rain.- bearcatsandor

How well would the Stealth's perform as a full stack (recording and mixing monitoring, mastering) headphone in a studio. I'd like to use one as my headphone for such endeavours. Any drawbacks to be considered?- bearcatsandor

Dan Clark Audio Stealth Review, Interview, Measurements
I have good wiring, but live through the winters of rual Montana. We get power-outages, but we also get brown-outs where the lights flicker then dim for a few seconds, then come up again. My understanding is that's worse on equipment than blackouts. Therefore, I have UPS units for my...- bearcatsandor

"I was particularly taken by vocal and instrumental timbre; the electronic synthesised bassline sounded rich and fruity, with some slight gruffness that's typical of analogue synths of that era." ... fruity sounding bass? Dan Clark Audio Stealth Review, Interview, Measurements
That's good to know, because that's not what I'm looking for. I'm interested in creating a VR-audio experience, not duplicating speakers, at least with naturally mic'd stereo, and surround material. I would think that a closed back would facilitate that because the room i'm in would not...- bearcatsandor

Yeah, that's what I thought. The thing is I live in the middle of Montana and I don't make a lot of money right now which means I can't afford both to play around with, and there's no place within a thousand miles of me where I could compare them.. Dan Clark Audio Stealth Review, Interview, Measurements
Can someone make a meaningful comparison between the Stealth and the Raal SRA-1, at least from 30hz up? I realize that their very different animals, but how does the detail, sound stage and speed compare? I would pair the SRA-1 with a sub, but i'm concerned about getting the timing right...- bearcatsandor
