    AKG K551 out soon.

Relax guys, it's the K551. It's a single digit difference as reflected by its single change. It's not like they're calling it a K560. They could have called it the K550i and nobody would bat an eyelash.

    Audeze LCD-2 Impressions Thread

Is it just me who finds the heavy talk about the LCD-2 to be exaggerated? I mean, it is a bit heavy, but nothing a healthy person cannot handle. It's not much heavier than placing a medium sized book on your head, and it clamps on the side, so it isn't even as difficult as that.

10 Second Survey - Music or Gear?

I spend almost everything on gear until I found a setup that satisfied me. I am now spending my audio money on CDs and music.

    Any Smashing Pumpkins fans here?

I like Luna and Tonight Tonight, and We Only Come Out at Night.   I'm of the opinion that Melon Collie is their magnum opus, and is their most versatile and ambitious work, and contains the most brilliant songs they've made, while Siamese Dream is their best rock album, and while it doesn't...

Keeping the LCD-2 and one other headphone, so two must go, please help me decide

the SR325s are ear bleeders, too bright and too piercing. i bought one and kept them for three days since they were too painful to listen to. The K701 is ok, but can sound strange with some genres. I'd keep the HD600. Most versatile out of the three choices.

    Sennheiser HD800 Appreciation Thread

It's strange, 2 years ago, you'd see threads dropping the HD800 to second tier TOTL.( See rankings like Skylab, David Mahler, even Steve Guttenburg). It's a renaissance of the HD800.

Does it get much better than the HD800?

I found amplifiers that have expansive soundstage (like the Phonitor) work the best with the LCD-2.
  8. idletime1213

    Is the HD800 overpriced?

Nah, was more commenting on the fickle nature of Head-fi rather than referencing anyone in general.
  9. idletime1213

    Is the HD800 overpriced?

Depends on the season. During the time when the orthos were new (HE-6 and LCD-2), the HD800 was considered a lower tier flagship, not on par with the orthos or classics like the R10. They were overpriced then. Now they're currently enjoying a surge in popularity, and the LCD-3 release has...

    What to get after LCD-2.1?

A disappointing experience with the Thunderpants has led me to temper expectations for every heap of praise on any headphone.

Does it get much better than the HD800?

When you get to a certain level, it all comes down to preferences. There are some who prefer the T1, the LCD-2/3 HE-6 to the HD800, while others prefer HD800 over them all. I don't consider any of them a level above each other, except maybe the 009. For example I had the opposite experience...

    What to get after LCD-2.1?

Quote:   I think the Signature Pro would fit you.

    What to get after LCD-2.1?

Well might be helpful to say what exactly do you want improved on the LCD-2.
  14. idletime1213

    What to get after LCD-2.1?

If you really want an Ultrasone, I'd go with the Sig Pro (which I think is better than the ED8 - but still not as good as the LCD-2 from my audition).

    AKG K550 - NEW!!

Is it worth to spend 1 month salary to buy high end headphones?

I'd gladly spend a month's salary for a headphone I enjoy. My headphones have already paid back much more than what I've spent on them in terms of enjoyment. Certainly a much better buy than my mobile phone or my tablet which cost roughly the same, but haven't brought me the same value. I'd have...

Any AKG K340 electrostat-dynamic owners, need recommendation on amp

Something fairly powerful should do the trick. The O2 maybe?

    Denon D7100?!

They look awkward and are priced awkwardly ($1200?). I don't really know who the target market is.
  19. idletime1213

The Audeze LCD-2 Ortho thread (New)

I can understand impact and quantity, but quality? The Denons and everything else sound flabby and undetailed compared to the Audeze in bass.

    Sennheiser pricing logic

Shure headphones are pretty flimsy. My friend's SRH 940 snapped when he was taking them off gently, and another acquaintance's 750DJ snapped as well in a meet.
  21. idletime1213

    Denon D7100?!

Being $1200, I doubt that Denon is realling targeting the Beats crowd with the D7100. I think it's just a stylistic blunder.
  22. idletime1213

    Denon D7100?!

Personally, I find the 250 GTO the best looking.

New Hifiman Headphone HE-400 is out

The LCD-2's bass is flatter and extends deeper than any dynamic I've tried, with possibly the HD800 a close second. The HE-400 might definitely have more quantity, but they don't really have the quality of the LCD-2 bass.

Audio-Technica ATH-AD2000 Discussion (and Appreciation) Thread!

They're like orange juice, great, but you need water to balance it out. Hence it can't be my sole headphone.
