Show us your vintage headphones!
Some of my 60's 70's German headphones They are cheap & sound amazing, way way better than Orpheus or Stax or anything (I am sorry:zipper_mouth:) Their headbands & ear cups are made by high quality leather (except the left one & the right one),same leather as a Mercedes seat, they last forever...- pkshan

If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...
After the "I just bought a new toy, and it's so great!" excitement had gone, today I switched back to the Telefunken TH30/TH60, then I found that the Telefunkens sound more musical, emotional, engaging, have more soul & depth in the music. I felt I missed something in the music when...- pkshan

On good sources(tapes, vinyls, good 1541/1540cd/dacs) the bass quantity of SR is just about right, bass is real & convincing, SR is the best, the king of transducer IMO. Bass boost is an easy way to have more bass on portables & most sources nowadays(I am sorry, but yes, 95% of them are...- pkshan

STAX aren't that good, vintage German alnico speakers & flagship headphones are better that Stax, but er4sr is superior to all of them- pkshan

Oh you...lol.... you know why there aren't many people buying ER4B?...... It's because your website is telling people, "The ER4B has a diffuse field curve, it's for binaural recording" But we know that, most(>90%) headphones have a diffuse field curve, included studio monitor...- pkshan

The mids are the best I've heard, vocals on my ER4SR are so real I've heard HE90 & most STAX, and there are no comparison. ER4SR are far better than those electrostatic headphones- pkshan

I did a listening test on ER4B, using some sine waves, to my ears, the 3khz & 14-16khz regions are significantly louder than other frequency too. Because these peaks, cymbals sound too forward, timbre is too bright & thin. With some EQs fixes ,the ER4B sounds like a live...- pkshan

Quote: Thanks very much for the reply, sorry for my grammar mistakes, English is not my mother language. the peaks were shown in the official FR graphs too. I play guitars, when I listening to ER4S, because the 6khz-10khz roll-off, the dynamic is compressed, timbre...- pkshan

ER4B/SR bass is the best I've heard, in terms of quality & accuracy 3 reasons why there are not enough bass on ER4: 1. Tips are not deep enough 2.Bad quality source ,.ER4 needs a good vinyl or digital source to get proper bass.(In digital sources, only a well made TDA1540/1541 CD...- pkshan

Quote: How about when listen to those high quality ,neutral recordings? when I listen to ER4S, the 6k-10k roll off makes the music lost energy, the sound is flat, boring, I felt asleep when i listen to it. because the mid high roll off destroyed the music instrument harmonics, it...- pkshan

The ER4SR is super. On my TDA1540 DAC, it beats my vintage Telefunken Alnico speakers & headphones, the ER4SR is better in almost every aspect, very smooth, delicate & real. ER4SR > vintage Alnico > Electrostatic, in terms of sound quality, timbre and accuracy. it's the best...- pkshan

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.
A properly driven & sealed TH600 will sound better than ER4S/4B (& ER4S/B are better than hd540) I would only recommend TH600/500/60/50 to very experiened users because: 1.A lot of them, about 50%,are defective (no sound) 2.10-15% sound weird (a high peak at 250hz) 3.Require good...- pkshan

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.
After TH600 broken-in (just 1-2 days), the "plastic sound" should gone too. but to get good quantity bass & good sound, the only way is use them on a high quality source (include HD540,people should not use EQ to fix the bass)- pkshan

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.
Sorry to hear that, when seal properly, it should at least fix the "bathroom" sound and those TH600 headphones need a top quality source, like Sony Qualia 010,they are super revealing (TH30 will sound much better than TH600 on a portable player) and please give it 1-2 days to break-in- pkshan

I've recorded some Telefunken TL800 videos https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCOogF34wJcJZo1HWHtxqmw A properly sealed TH600, the sound is almost as good(or bad?) as the TL800- pkshan
