Thoughts on ATH-AD2000
Hi Raleigh, in the end I bought the AD2000 and I couldn't be happier. Especially when reading the gripes some people had with the HE-400. After using the AD2000 for half a year I can say that I think it's built like a tank. I would have no problem throwing it in a backpack to carry around all...- ksvieb

Unpopular/Uncommon Musical Opinions
People who like the "music" of Hans Zimmer have no clue about classical music whatsoever. I met this guy and I know how he "composes" his "music". He will be "working" on about 10 movie soundtracks (on his synth rig) at a time and piecing together bits and fragments of kitchy 19th century... -
Nuforce product quality! (was: Help my headphones just shocked me!)
FYI Here is the answer from nuforce. This was the last time I bought anything from them: We cannot replace the item because you purchased it used on E-bay and the warranty is not transferable to any third party. If you require further evidence of this fact we would refer you to the...- ksvieb

Nuforce product quality! (was: Help my headphones just shocked me!)
This was not just static buildup. After I was zapped it smelled like someone was smoking outside the window before I realized that the uDAC 2 was emitting the smell. So much for build quality on nuforce products. I just hope they replace it as soon as possible so I can sell this piece of crap.- ksvieb

Nuforce product quality! (was: Help my headphones just shocked me!)
Hi, I just literally got shocked my the right driver of my Audio Technica ATH-AD2000 cans that I just bought a month ago. I was listening to Music via a Nufore uDAC 2 when I felt my right ear recieving an electric shock after which the right driver stopped working altogether. Now I really...- ksvieb

ATH-W1000X Thread!
Hi, sorry for the late reply. Since I'm living in Osaka I bought them from here: http://goo.gl/CwEMr The product code seems to be HP-L3000. They go for 5000 yen at the moment. They also have the W5000 pads here: http://goo.gl/SnLm1 They are just a tad cheaper and I was...- ksvieb

Best Way To Burn In IEMs/Headphones?
BA stands for balanced armature. Basically the technology that in-ear monitors employ. Regarding burn-in. I know it might just be the different signatures, but I recently bought an ATH-AD2000 (mostly unused?), a W1000X (definetly unused), and a pretty used ATH-AD900. The used AD900 did...- ksvieb

BLIND TEST: 128kbps mp3 vs Lossless
This was easier than I expected. Since being at work I didn't even use my higher-end setup, just the ATH-AD900 and the crappy headphone jack from my Thinkpad X220. Even then it's not that difficult to tell. It was becoming pretty obvious in the lower frequencies I think. 128k mp3 tends to sound...- ksvieb

ATH-W1000X Thread!
For those of you looking to exchange the pads: I actually replaced the pleather pads with the L3000 lamp leather pads without a problem. They are a pricey upgrade (60 dollars) but worth every penny as I can listen to the W1000X without problems for hours now. They comfort has definetly improved...- ksvieb

Retro headphone challenge.
So I was just watching this old movie with Gene Hackman called "The conversation" and there is a surveillance guy in the first scene that uses quite a nice pair or on-ear cans that I haven't seen before. Can any of you retro-headphone specialists give me a clue on the model or at least the...- ksvieb

Need a sturdy IEM, something I can sleep with...
You could probably get away much cheaper with something like this http://www.amazon.com/Radians-Custom-Molded-Earplugs-Red/dp/B002XULPSQ I recently bought some and they have quite good isolation while being perfectly comfortable. Just remember to knead them thoroughly and keep your mouth...- ksvieb

Review by 'ksvieb' on item 'Audio-Technica ATH-AD2000'
I have these, driven by a Ratoc mid-fi DAC/Amp (50.000 Yen), listening to FLAC 24/96 or upscaled 12/44. I can compare them to the W1000X which I also purchased recently, to the AD900 and to the AD700. Most of my impressions AD900 are the review for those cans. I can say that the...- ksvieb

Review by 'ksvieb' on item 'Audio-Technica ATH-AD900'
These are great headphones for quite a budget price (at least in Japan and America). I also own the AD2000 and the W1000X so here is a little comparison: The W1000X would be the warmest sounding of the bunch. The AD900s openness also takes away something from the bass area that would be...- ksvieb

W1000X Pad mod
Update: I can confirm that the L3000 lambleather pads so in fact work with the W1000x. They are called Audio Technica HP-L3000 and I bought mine here: http://www.soundhouse.co.jp/shop/ProductDetail.asp?Item=158 Considering the steep price of 5000 yen (70 Dollar) I didn't find them to be...- ksvieb

Review by 'ksvieb' on item 'RATOC Audio Lab RAL-2496UT1 USB-Dac/Amp'
So I bought the Ratoc Systems RAL-2496UT1 on the Japanese Yahoo Auctions site a few days back. It has been getting 100% positive reviews on Amazon Japan and Kakaku.com so I thought it couln't be bad. Also, the guy selling it sold his Beyerdynamic T1 and A1 at the same time so he probably...- ksvieb

Review by 'ksvieb' on item 'Audio Technica ATH-W1000X'
Really wanting to buy the AD2000 I got the W1000x on the Japanese Yahoo Auction site for a ridiculously low price of 29000 yen. They are used but have almost no wear or tear. I guess they have been broken in alreay, but I really can't say. The might have been used as an exposition model since...- ksvieb

W1000X Pad mod
Hi, I just got the W1000x quite cheap for 28.000 yen. Now I have read in earlier posts that it's possible to use the L3000 pads for a W1000X headphone. Unfortunately I can't seem to find any of those here in Japan. I have however found this website: http://torapo.com/other/hp.htm#l3000...- ksvieb

Reply to review by 'ksvieb' on item 'Sony XBA-3SL'
I bought the XBA-3 and I was amazed at how good they sound. You can get them alot cheaper on kakaku.com. I would consider myself to have a little smaller than average ears (for a guy) and I feel these hurt after using them for a while. The noise isolating tips are making my ears wider and hurt...- ksvieb

Thoughts on ATH-AD2000
By the way I have found a massive collection of retro japanese headphones for sale on Yahoo auctions. Interesting stuff although it's quite hard to get infos on many of them. http://page11.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/n102766312 ...- ksvieb
