Review by 'lepermessiah' on item 'BGVP ArtMagic V12'

As one gets into the rarefied air of higher realms of IEMs, the driver count can get out of hand. The BGVP V12 boasted as much drivers as its name did- twelve balanced armatures. The creatively named BGVP (I think it stands for Budget Gears for Various Personalities) was established in 2015 in...

Review by 'lepermessiah' on item 'TRI Starshine'

TRI is a premium arm of KBear. The China based KBear brand was established in 2014 by Shenzhen Lingyin Technology Co Ltd and was primarily catering to the budget audio gear segment. Since they were doing well in providing quality equipment that didn’t cost an arm and leg, KBear decided to go...

Review by 'lepermessiah' on item 'Symphonium Meteor'

Symphonium Audio was born in 2016 out of a need of pursuit of perfection and the vision of three founders to carve their own path by revolutionizing the way the world listened to music. It was fitting that this company was born in Singapore- the land of opportunities, constant change and...

Review by 'lepermessiah' on item 'Empire Ears Empire Studio Reference (E.S.R)'

The ESR Mk 1 was the first Empire Ears IEM that I tried extensively courtesy of a dear friend of mine. Empire Ears is an American family owned establishment that has been around for about 30 years or so. They handcraft their products in the USA and are proud of the attention to detail lavished...

Review by 'lepermessiah' on item 'Softears Studio 4'

I had the opportunity to listen to this classy pair of IEMs courtesy of a dear friend of mine for an extended period. I was trying out the more recent mid/higher end IEMs after a hiatus and what a place to start. Apparently, Softears was established in around 2017 in China and is associated with...

Review by 'lepermessiah' on item 'Ultimate Ears Pro 18+'

I had the opportunity to listen to this lovely pair of IEMs courtesy of a dear friend of mine for an extended period. The UE TF10 was one of the first recommendations that I had received from this forum when I was out to buy an IEM back in 2012. While I had missed the boat on that one, I did buy...

    Signature Acoustics O16 Live Review

Signature Acoustics made a splash with their much loved C12 wooden iems. It was well made, reasonably priced and was fun to listen to. Buoyed by the success, Signature Acoustics has launched another iem- the O16 Live. Let’s see how the second offering fares.   Build quality, Packaging...

    Signature Acoustics C-12 | Review

I liked the C12. When I had it with me for review, I found myself using them the most since the sound signature was so likable. That brass case really is something, huh? I was kind of surprised when I saw it for the first time. Looks like it could stop a bullet The guys at Pristine Note were...

    Signature Acoustics C-12 | Review

Hey Shawn.. I got to review the C12 as well and had posted my review on techenclave.com: http://www.techenclave.com/community/threads/signature-acoustics-c12.151283/#post-1856165  Your observations are spot on, as always. It's a great daily iem- I used it regularly for my commutes.

    Signature Acoustics C12 Review

Since the Signature Acoustics C12 is set for a worldwide release, I'd like to share my take on them, especially since I had spent a lot of time with it. Here's my review from techenclave.com:   India’s famous for many things, but for audiophiles, there aren't many indigenous choices...

Review by 'lepermessiah' on item 'JVC HA-FXT90'

Damn..another one..   The Ultimate Ears 500 left me feeling lukewarm, to be honest. Though I had been initially impressed, as the days passed by, my liking for it faded rapidly with each passing day- something I never experienced with any other iem I owned. This was one IEM which I regretted...

I had read your review- nicely done. I could have lived with the flat cable design, but I haven't taken a shining to the material used and the lack of proper strain reliefs. Each to his own, at the end of the day. I don't use an EQ- neither on my laptop nor on any of my portable devices.

Review by 'lepermessiah' on item 'Ultimate Ears 500'

Why another iem?   The Creative EP630 was my 'beater' pair of iems- ie, a pair I used for casual and rough use. It was no SQ king, but it served me very well- it was more than 5 years old (IIRC) and it was still working when I gave it away to a friend. Now I didn't have a beater pair to use...

    Metal/Progressive Rock/Alternative Rock/Post Rock IEM

Quote:   The W4R has a removable cable and the regular W4 doesn't. Other than that, there isn't any difference between the two of them unless I'm missing something. Wow! I wasn't aware that the price difference between them was $150... Still, the removable cable offers a security...

    Metal/Progressive Rock/Alternative Rock/Post Rock IEM

I listen to metal with my W4-s and I absolutely love it. The amount of detail these things can bring out is surprising. They're pretty comfortable too. The W4's sound depends on its tips. The preferred ones are the Earsonics biflanges, Sony hybrids and Shure Olives. I prefer the stock triple...

Review by 'lepermessiah' on item 'Panasonic RP-HJE900 '

Build Quality    The shells made of cubic zirconia is easily the most distinct aspect of the HJE900. It is almost indestructible and according to the literature, can only be scratched by diamond. The shells feel rock solid, has a cool blingy finish, looks and makes you feel good about your...

    IEMs for rock/metal lover

Quote: Hey man, looks like it's a good deal for 20 grand (Are you buying them new? If so, great! If not, at least make sure that they have some warranty left. Westone has exemplary customer service and they'll take care of you in case any issues arise.)   My friend had got a pair of...

@ Figment571   Seems like the Grado SR60i would be a perfect choice for you. I listen to a fair amount of classic rock myself with these cans and I love it. The SR60i is an open headphone and while it sounds airy and speaker like, I don't think it has a very wide soundstage. However, it...

    Headphones for METAL!!!

Quote: +1 Lamb of God's Resolution, right? Listening to that with my SR60-s was like Chinese water torture. It would sound great to the majority of the guys who use stock iPod/iPhone buds but to people like us...ugh. LoG's Ashes of the Wake seemed to be made well though the guitars sound...

    Headphones for METAL!!!

Quote:   That's odd. Buzzing insects in a can? I second what keltor said- there's something wrong with those cans. Hope that gets sorted out- it's disappointing to buy something so expensive and then discover that they do not perform upto expectations or worse, if it's a lemon. If you...

    Headphones for METAL!!!

Quote:   Hey man! Thanks for recommending the W4-s- I love them! Hmm.. so they do benefit from amping.. I wasn't too sure of that. I listen to music mainly via my laptop and my cell phone. Thus I was wondering whether I was doing full justice to the W4-s. I had been tempted to buy the a...

    Headphones for METAL!!!

Quote:   Coming to over the ear phones, I would strongly recommend you to check out the Grado lineup. Rock and metal are the calling cards for most Grados. I use an SR60i for listening at home- tight punchy bass after burn in, smooth mids and sharp highs. Do try them out first if you can...

Quote: How about an Etymotic MC5 or HF5? Loads of detail, bass response dependent on seal- not too bassy like the Eterna.

Reply to review by 'lepermessiah' on item 'Westone 4 True-Fit Earphones'

Which tips do you use? The W4 can sound dark with certain tips (like the triple flanges) but can open up and add in more brightness and sparkle with other tips with a bigger bore. How does the UE700 sound? Is it a bright sounding iem? The first thing I usually notice when I switch from a mp3...

    Headphones for METAL!!!

I'm addicted to metal as well. I was in the same quandary as the OP some months back when I was shopping for a pair of iems for portable use. I had almost decided on buying the TF10 but by a very very lucky chance and thanks to Sylaw, I was able to get a Westone 4. Though my initial ownership...
