Driving Polk T15 speakers; do I need a preamp?
Sometimes I need a break for my cans, so I've got a pair of Polk Audio T15 powered by a Yamaha R-S201 that's fed by my USB AlienDAC. It sounds fine, but I have to crank up the volume to near max on the Yamaha to get what I want out of the Polks. As a stop gap, I put my XPamp in front of the...- dulath

AD700s died.. (*cries internally*), Where do I go from here?
Ended up getting ATH-AD900 (classic, not new-model X) from LP GEAR. Basically just like the AD700 but with sturdier construction that doesn't add extra weight. I've never really liked Sennheisers. Had 595 magic reds but traded them along because they were too laid back. I was trained on SR60s at...- dulath

AD700s died.. (*cries internally*), Where do I go from here?
Right speaker died on my ATH AD700, the cans that I've enjoyed as a companion to my MS-100s for 7-8 years now. I understand there's a new model of A/D's out, but I haven't heard good things about them. Should I go straight to old model AD900s? Is there an alternative that's better priced, more...- dulath

What's your favorite songs to test your sound system with?
When in doubt, Mister X had me use A Perfect Circle's Thirteenth Step for resolution testing. He probably had a hard on for them, in retrospect. -
Fleet Foxes new album around the corner
About time. Enjoyed the folksy sensibilities coupled with the good recording quality. Looking forward to this. -

My ATH-AD700 Mods Thus Far
I like the detachable cable idea. The stock AD700 cable is super long to start with, which can be both a blessing and a curse.- dulath

Help deciding on a Sound Card for some ATH AD700 and HD555
I'm on the internet and I'm going to argue with you. Most* "on-board" sound solutions provide excellent sound quality at line-out volumes. They're all using the same cheap Taiwanese DACs anyways. Still, a mediocre DAC + amp sounds better than a set of cans plugged into a line out port alone.- dulath

Help deciding on a Sound Card for some ATH AD700 and HD555
Your AD700s are very forgiving (and very comfortable). Your problem is plugging them in-line with a line out source: your PC. You need a decent amp before you worry about any thing else.- dulath

Post a picture of your Headphone Rig.
Well damn, I should show off my audiopeen or whatever the kids are calling it. Yeah, that's my MisterX alien DAC and XP amp. They're way better than your thousand dollar pieces of crap. Also, that is stoli and Doritos. doritos are the fruit of gods. So are my cans. Your derisiveness...- dulath

ATH-AD700 Opinions
I'm in the same boat as a previous poster in that I perfer my AD700s to my MS-1s. They have a very similar sound signature, but the ADs are more comfortable and have a wider soundstage.- dulath

Heh, we did a Whitachre piece every year for the three years I was in the Sprague High School Concert Chior. Water Night, Sleep, and Leonardo Dreams of his Flying Machine. Very deep and interesting music both to perform and listen to. I shall give this one a listen. -
I always ask questions.. ATH-AD500? any good? :)
I throughly enjoy my AD-700s. Coming from the Grado line, I'm not missing any Soundstage - it sounds fine to me. The bass is lacking, but the cans respond very well to EQing, so you can easily make the bass return without distortion.- dulath
