I should of been more specific about the long grey wire. I pulled it out by accident. But I am happy to use one of the dead cables I have for educational purposes.

Wow, this project sounds boss. I wonder if its possible to make a cable that would work like control talk but better quality and that works with the nexus s volume control with mic.

While the ath-m50 is a great heaphone, the bass isn't up to par with jackhammer types. It would be fair better with an amplifier with bass boost capabilities while still retaining the great mids and highs!
