I'm mainly using a chord Hugo2 and a Colorfly C4. Budget I'd say around 1k as I only want them as a secondary pair of cans for mainly on my balcony ( hence also the closed nature I'm looking for)

I second that! Its always about what you have to compare it to. The 2C sounds not clean anymore after switching from a Focal Clear or XC but it as you said in its price range its the clear winner and it sounds clean as hell compared to some T1, HD700 and everything else I heard sub 1k.

quick question: what settings are you using on the windows device sound settings thingy? it goes up to 32 bit and god knows how many Hertz but does it make any sense to set more than 32 bit 44.1kHz? Or do these settings even matter when foobar uses asio for the hugo 2?

I know exactly what you mean. After getting used to the XC and clear almost everything sounds grany and veiled ( especially in direct comparison). So I see that whilst being cheap the Denon still would be a waste of possible Clear funds xD Plus nothing in the sub 1k area seems to beat the 2C (...

Id recommend saving up for the clear then ;) but maybe give the Denon AH-D7200 a try. It's similar to the 2c sound signature and extremely low weight BUT it's not nearly as good as the 2c so don't even consider it if it's not sub 500$

@betula no it's no problem for me especially compared to the heavier XC.
